I saw Jon Wurster without realizing it

Huh.  I just saw on the Wurster Myspace page that he was drumming for the New Pornographers when I saw them.  It was a fontastic show.

And now I am going to go see Paul F. Tompkins.

but you're going to PFT on purpose. :)

After he and I became huge Mike Patton fans, it dawned on Sean that he saw Tomahawk perform with Tool in Vegas awhile back. He said all he remembered was this crazy guy with a black latex mask on his head screaming a lot.

I was so disappointed when I found out he played here in Albuquerque with the New Pornographers. Had I known he was playing, I would've been there in the ranks. I snoozed, I lost.

I can see that. If he was the drummer for, say, the Foo Fighters, his picture would've been on a Wheaties box by now. More Wurster for us, that's what I say.

And swissmiss, seeing the word "Rapist" over your picture made me laugh really hard. Can we agree the new Rapist/Steve McQueen With a Skull-Face ranking is the best thing ever? I love it!

I noticed that the other day, Matt. I was thinking, "How did they know?"

I just saw Jon Wurster play drums with The Mountain Goats on Tuesday night (the 18th).  What's amazing to me is that he called into The Best Show that night. He must have done it during the opening act (The Moaners).  Versatile fellow.

I must also add that I came to the show for John Darnielle, but stayed for Jon Wurster.  A friend of mine at the show who knew nothing about Jon Wurster (or the Mountain Goats for that matter) asked me "Who IS that guy?"  He is an impressive drummer.

Anyone (like me) who was originally annoyed that the Mountain Goats became a full band was quickly relieved because the band chosen was so incredible.

Ironically, Jon Wurster has seen you without you realizing it. In fact, he's in your house right now!

I met Jon Wurster recently when the Mountain Goats played the Middle East. I had had no idea he was drumming for them (I recently took a break from doing a radio show, which put the latest Mountain Goats record on my rapidly-growing "things I need to go back and listen to" list) but thought the guy hanging out in the green room (I do hospitality setups for the East) looked/sounded familiar. So a little while later, we were both heading upstairs and I introduced myself and broached the question. "You know, I heard your voice and thought 'this guy sounds familiar...'," I said, to which he responded, "Yeah, it was either me, or a woman."

Nice guy, needless to say.
