Judd's been running his cred engine off the goodwill from Freaks and Geeks for years now.  But that shit's not a renewable resource.

Paul Feig is responsible for the bulk of F&G's awesomeness.  My favorite Apatow-related film is The Cable Guy.

BUT, I was just re-watching a bunch of Larry Sanders episodes the other day and was surprised to see Judd Apatow's name - I never realized he was involved in that (and that does, indeed, get him some renewable cred points).
Now write me a receipt so I can tip on outta here...

Whole Foods.

Actually I understand why Whole Foods is popular; I just don't get why I feel the need to dress up nice to pay way too much for lettuce.

Also I don't get giant SUV-sized baby-strollers. In my day we had two umbrella sticks with wheels and it worked just fine!

TL, the fact that someone on this board stood up for Hot Rock warms my heart. Start Together was my comeback anthem for '99 (as Sons of Cain was in '07).

I actually get Destroyer more than The New Pornographers. Give me Rubies, sir, and you can have your Challengers!

I was watching an episode of "The Critic" a couple of days ago and saw both Judd Apatow and Brad Bird's names. Two big surprises for me there.

Apatow was also involved in Anchorman, yes? That should also get him some points. For the record, I loved 40 Year-Old Virgin.

He deserves to be severely flogged for Walk Hard, though. Ew buoy.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

uh huh..

honestly - if you're into the whole organic/fair trade/locally grown foodstuffs thing (like the wifey and i are) - chances are there's a decent co-op market round your way to satisfy all of your healthy chow needs (minus the isle-blocking, oblivious money-havin' folks you find at WF paying their super high prices.) and if you don't live in a major metro - there's still a lot of family farms out there with the same good stuff that's probably only a short drive away (we have a lot of great amish and mennonite farm pads here in PA.) i agree with a lot of what WF is all about - but i feel like quality, environmentally-responsible food shouldn't be only accessible to those with major bucks. whole foods - i like it (mostly) - but i don't get it (mostly.)

I know a guy who is a raw vegan and who worked the meat counter at Whole Foods for about a year. People would always ask him how to cook the stuff they were buying and he (who hadn't eaten meat in about 8 years) would be like, "just keep an eye on it."

Um, anyway. Carry on.

-Sleater-Kinney

I only like 'The Woods', which is the least Sleater-Kinney-ey of all of them. It's the aural equivalent of 'Mission Impossible 3', which came out the same year, and I must say I very much enjoyed. All the pre-'Woods' stuff, though, I don't care for.

I think The Hot Rock and Dig me Out are great records.

amen - though "the woods" in no slouch either. they're maybe the best example i can think of regarding a band that others tell me they don't get and i can totally understand why.

One Beat is in the top 10 of the 00's in my opinion. That said, I'm not a huge fan of the rest of their stuff. I didn't like The Woods at all and The Hot Rock and Dig Me Out are just ok. I don't know why One Beat is so different for me.

I lurve Sleater-Kinney, missteps and all.  If they ever release their final show on dvd look for me wearing a Scharpling Landscaping t-shirt.

Andrew,

Yes exactly! This year we're going to take part in a local crop share available in Providence where you pay up front and receive a weekly pick-up of local produce. Hopefully more and more people will find their way to this (even if it's only during the summer months) and away from mega-organic produce from who-know's-where.

Other people have mentioned The New Pornographers, but I'll throw them into the fray officially. I'm a big fan of poppy indie rock, but this is just... too much. They're the aural equivalent of snorting a Pixie Stick.

i'd like to throw high def TVs into the i don't get it zone - or maybe just gingerly place them there. they're pretty $$ and i don't want to have to foot the bill if one breaks.

i guess i could see the point of wanting to see every detail of everything if you watch exhaustive amounts of television - but the few shows i like look just fine the way they are. a mega detailed jerry orbach (r.i.p.) is a tough pill to swallow.

it always irked when i'd mention something about the simpsons and some snob would shoot back with a very superior "i don't watch tv!" i'm not that full of myself, but if it all went away tomorrow, i could give a fluff. i got a decent sized/priced tele for movie/phillies game watching and that's fine by me. spending several grand to have an opportunity to play connect the craters on some weird o' wood has been's aging face (not a veiled jerry orbach reference - him i love and could gaze at all day) is too much for me. i don't get it..
