Favorite CDs ever (at least for today)
« on: May 04, 2008, 04:44:54 PM »
To kill time, I put together (very quickly) a list of my favorite CDs. If you have any interest in seeing the tired boring tastes of decrepit old men, point your browser to

http://gaughin.edublogs.org/

I also write semi-regularly about movie stars, if that's of any interest to you.

I will let Tom lead his life if he lets me lead mine.

I did finally get around to listening to the April 1 show; running Wild Life back to back with half of Side 2 of All Things Must Pass did my heart good.

I made this for another board (top ten plus two extras):

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground and Nico [Mono] (1967/Verve)
The Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn [Mono] (1967/Columbia)
Leonard Cohen - Songs from a Room (1969/Columbia)
Scott Walker - Scott 3 (1969/Philips)
NEU! - Neu! (1972/Polygram)
The Clash - The Clash [U.K.] (1977/CBS)
Wire - Chairs Missing (1978/Harvest)
The Television Personalities - And Don't the Kids Just Love It (1981/Rough Trade)
The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour (1982/Kamera)
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (1998/Merge)

The Reatards - Teenage Hate (1998/Goner)
Animal Collective - Feels (2005/FatCat)

All of these are fairly obvious, and I didn't really think about it a lot.

I'm not a chicken,  you're a turkey.

As you can see, there's not enough anger in my life; I make up for that by killing people and burying them in my backyard.

The Ten:

dEUS - The Ideal Crash
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows
the delgados - The Great Eastern
Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
The Notwist - Neon Golden
Thursday - Full Collapse
Six by Seven - The Closer You Get
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call
Laura Marling - Alas, I Cannot Swim*

Most of those are from 1999-2001, when I was 16-18.
*This was only released a couple of months back, but I have to say, it's speaking more to me than anything else has in years.
After resisting for no good reason for a long time, I'm starting to listen more to stuff that was made before I was born.
