Guilty Pleasures...
« on: November 04, 2006, 04:57:44 PM »
Here's mine:

- Van Halen...including Hagar-era VH.
- Canned corned beef and/or Vienna Sausages
- Rick and Rose's Radio Zero podcast
- Lily Allen
- Led Zeppelin, "Coda" and "In Through the Out Door"
- "Xanadu" (both the movie AND the soundtrack)
- Adbusters magazine
- Late night infomercials, specifically the Magic Bullet blender, Ron Popeil rotisserie and that hyper-LoFi "Allumalloy" infomercial)

So, what's yours?

1) Comic Books, lots of them. Picked it up again while studying for the Bar Exam and have become borderline fanatic since.
2) Nascar. If its on TV and I am watching TV I can't look away
3) Cartoons.
4) The Take-5 candy bar
5) The Maple Scone from Starbucks
6) Not answering the phone

Ren and Stimpy is high art.

No guilty pleasure there. Stimpy's Big Day is up there with Guernica.

"A guilty pleasure is neither," as the Buddhists say. But people goof on me about:
-Fireworks
-Cheap beer
-Hip-hop
-Guns N Roses
-Basketball
-Chili
-Standup comedy

Sweet, sweet fireworks.

Once a year, I get together will a bunch of my completely wacky law school pals, who are truly 8 years old at heart. There is a tradition of buying a bunch of balsa wood and styrofoam planes and spending copious amounts of time using various Indian-reservation-purchased illegal fireworks to rocket propel and destroy them in increasingly elaborate ways.

Even though I learned from former Best Show Patron Saint, Andrew WK, that there's no such thing as a guilty pleasure...

1. Andrew WK
2. The Carpenters
2. Dragonball Z
4. Supertroopers
5. TNBC shows (City Guys, Endurance, Trading Spaces: Boys Vs. Girls, etc)

Things listed so far that I dispute being guilty pleasures;
Hip-Hop
Guns'n'Roses
Basketball
Chili
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Andrew WK was on Aqua Teen Hunger Force last night.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Dr Phil, Jerry Springer, Montel, Ellen, Maury...

I have it go on record that the only time I watch TV is when I eat, it's an OCD thing... but since TV is almost entirely garbage in these days, I find myself watching shows such as the ones mentioned above and enjoying them.

I'll think of some other guilty pleasures later.
