Hoo boy. Check out Florida. Lynyrd Skynyrd and Tom Petty. NOT FOR ME.

Their new band pick, though, is pretty awesome. Torche is touring with BORIS. YEAH.

Ha ha! I love that the above video is tagged as "Miami bass." I don't know if that was intentional or not, but it's HI-LARIOUS. L'Trimm epitomizes Miami Bass:

All-time best band from Florida, no?

PS: I like this better than the 50 State Initiative.

I'm pretty okay with the Colorado winners:

All-Time Best Band: Apples in Stereo
All-Time Best Solo Artist: Jello Biafra
Best New Band: DeVotchKa

I'd definitely agree about Apples in Stereo, and DeVotchKa are not bad.  Not the biggest Jello fan, but at least neither String Cheese Incident nor Big Head Todd and the Monsters made the list, which was my biggest fear.

New Jersey needs about 10 more entries.

I'm going to see Torche tomorrow night.  Boris/Torche in lieu of live Best Show.

I have to say that Tom Petty does belong on any best of Florida list.  He epitomizes competent rock.

Hey, hey! Guess who's the all-time best band from NORTH* Carolina? If you guessed Superchunk, you're right!

*You try typing things correctly when you keep singing, "Well, I like all kinds of guys!" over and over again!!

In the category of not surprising at all MN is represented by Dylan, Prince and the Mats. I don't like Doomtree very much I went to an party after their show once and a couple of the guys were not good guys. Maybe it was a bad night, but it kind of turned me off to them... although I didn't really like them in the first place.

Come on Laurie, I can see Skynyrd for sure, but there's nothin' wrong with Petty.

Maine:

All-Time Best Band: Rustic Overtones
All-Time Best Solo Artist: Juliana Hatfield
Best New Band: Big Blood

I know nuttin' about the first and third.  I suspect the average Lubecker is ignorant of all three.

I live in Knoxville Tennessee. The good news?

All-Time Best Band: Big Star
All-Time Best Solo Artist: Aretha Franklin
Best New Act: Jay Reatard

The bad news?

All-Time Best Band: Big Star (Memphis)
All-Time Best Solo Artist: Aretha Franklin (Memphis)
Best New Act: Jay Reatard (Memphis)

Cities closer to Knoxville than Memphis?
Columbus Ohio
Richmond Virginia
Raleigh North Carolina
Macon Georgia
Tuscaloosa Alabama
Indianapolis Indiana

North Dakota:

Best New Band: Vaz

Hmm, pretty loose with the term "new" there.  Vaz has been around since 1997.

I'm thinking of a phrase that begins with Cheap and ends with Trick.
Abstinence, like all things, is best practiced in moderation.
