What Are You Listening To Right This Very Second?

Last week I was driving somewhere and somehow put on WXPN 88.7 here in Philly. This is the station that has given us the dreck that is NPR's "World Cafe Live". I am only really subjected to this station when I go to coffeeshops in certain Philly neighborhoods. It's the go-to station for ACLU organizers. I'm pretty sure they were ground zero for the plague that is Gotye.

Anyways, they played a really awesome song that I thought was a Modern Lovers song I somehow skipped. I put it on Shazam and discovered it was "Part Time Punks" by the Television Personalities. I always heard of TVP but somehow never heard a single TVP song until last week.

I am now playing catch-up. I feel like that if I heard them when I was in college they would have been my favorite band. And then when I went to a Brit-pop dance night thing in 2000 or so I could have requested Part Time Punks and that girl with the bangs would have smiled.

The singer's thick English accent made me think it was the Modern Lovers too.

Have you heard any of their other stuff? The first album Mr. Superlove is very worth your time.

It's a very good album. Same tone and tenor as his last album, "Modern Times," but slightly better. He's still at the top of his game lyric-wise. And the arrangements and production are top-shelf too. Unfortunately, his voice is becoming more and more painful to listen to as he gets older, something which makes it a bit of an uncomfortable listen. But it's not so bad that it greatly detracts from the quality of the album. Taken as a whole, it's Dylan's best work in quite some time.
