But The Association DID love the sun.

I was shocked by the resemblance to The Association on a couple of these songs.

Look for the tongue -in -cheek during those ones, Davo.

I dunno, Fredericks.  Didn't Reed force Cale out for this album in a bid for VU pop stardom?

Though, alternately, I did hear the title was chosen because the record company wanted a record "loaded with hits."  So maybe Lou was being a smartass.

I guess I could just Wiki it, but where's the fun in that?
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

CBC w/ DJ Terre T's tribute to Alex Chilton.
Big Star's live cover of T. Rex's "Baby Strange" is kinda blowing my mind right now. What also blows my mind is that this is from 1973, and T. Rex, with the exception of "Bang A Gong (Get It On)" never really took off in the US, and "Baby Strange" was only a year old at most when it was covered. That is cool.

Checking out this Black Jaspers LP that I picked up yesterday. I've liked some of the King Khan stuff I've heard, which is probably what prompted me to pick this up, but I'm unimpressed so far. I guess I should've been warned away by the "Mastered by Tim Warren" on the back cover, but I went ahead anyway. It just seems like KBD lo-fi dress-up with every song sounding EXACTLY the same, production so bad they had to be trying and the usual boilerplate nosebleed/1977/razorblade song titles. Blah.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Lloyd Miller - A Lifetime in Oriental Jazz

Pretty sensational compilation on the Jazzman label. Came out last year. Details.

Lloyd has led quite a life. From his Wiki entry:

Quote
(b. 1938)

Lloyd Miller received a doctorate in ethnomusicology from the University of Utah. His thesis was entitled "Music and Song in Persia". While writing his thesis, he spent 7 years in Tehran as an arts writer for several publications and a PR person for the Center for Preservation and Propagation of Iranian Music.

He is native in English and fluent in Persian, Dari and French, and during the 1950s and 60s, Miller played with top jazz artists in Europe like Don Ellis and Eddie Harris. Miller was interested in eastern culture and music. He moved to Iran and mastered Persian music as well as Iranian folk music genres under the supervision of masters Dr. Daryush Safvat and Mahmoud Karimi.

Dr. Miller is also known as Kurosh Ali Khan, a name he used while hosting a prime-time television show in Tehran, Iran in the 1970s. The program was known as Kurosh Ali Khan va Dustan, or Kurosh Ali Khan and Friends, a variety show with music.

Monk Suite: Kronos Quartet Plays Music Of Thelonious Monk

Great stuff.  Chamber quartet playing from transcriptions while a top-flight jazz bassist improvises under and around them.  I only had 7 emusic credits left; I skipped the two Ellington tunes.

I've been doing a little compare and contrast, and or maybe just watching/revisiting the first 2 "Decline of Western Civ.", first of all how crazy is 1? I never saw it until now despite having been a big Black Flag/Circle Jerks fan since I was in 7th grade, just never had accesses to this movie? It is crazy and to place it in a 1979/1980 time frame at this point is blowing my mind. The first movie as I'm sure anyone as else who has the two will agree is so much more relevant to where we are now, the second is fun, interesting but is less socially relevant? I don't know any one else have comments on these movies? Also I just realized the hilltop in LA she has Lemmy standing on in the second, is the same as she has some other British guy/critic standing on in the first 8 or 9 years earlier?

Last night's SSD.

It's great to hear our pal DJ Terre T as the loudest advocate of Andy putting on the Peanut Butter Underwear.
