Game Theory! I just discovered them about a month ago, and now I'm seeing them everywhere.

Related: The Loud Family is (was?) led by Scott Miller from Game Theory. Their 'Plants and Birds and Rocks and Things' album is a classic. Aimee Mann is also a big fan of it - I've heard her mention it on a couple of occasions.

'The Beautiful Days' by Swans off of Soundtracks for the Blind

I finally checked them out after having them on the radar for years, and am really enjoying almost everything I have heard so far. The New York Times' article the other day about ATP with a picture of Michael Gira is what finally got me off my asterisk.

I never got around to the archive of Diane Kamikaze's recent show with Joe Preston (Thrones), but I found a link to his radio show on the playlist.  Currently listening to an instrumental Hawkwind tune from the "Spoilt" episode.

What's your take on 'Slave to the Grind' versus 'Skid Row' Omar? I found 'Slave' really difficult too get into.

I know you didn't ask me, but Slave is infinitely superior to the debut. I'd put it up there among the finest of its era.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Skid Row is a very solid debut, but Slave to the Grind is a classic.  The overall playing and songwriting is at a much higher level to my ears.

Slave delivers a great mix of heavier riffage (the opening 1-2 blast of "Monkey Business"/"Slave to the Grind" is one of my all-time favorite opening 1-2 blasts; "Mudkicker"), pop metal rippers ("The Threat," "Livin' On A Chain Gang"), Parental Advisory-prompting ("Get the F Out"1), punk rave-up "Riot Act," and a trio of primo power-ballads ("Quicksand Jesus," "In A Darkened Room," and "Wasted Time").  "In A Darkened Room" is probably Bach's best-ever vocal performance.

In summary: Dan, please revisit this recording!

I think the new Kathryn Calder single might be my favourite pop song of the year:
