Does anyone know what this hurricane recovery t-shirt looks like? I can't seem to find a picture of it on the station website.

Tom said in the chat that there isn't a design yet. It's a very new premium.

The best: a tie between the cathartic tears at Tom's repeated "this is where I live" and cathartic laughter at AP Mike's last, disgusting comments about Meat City Mike's shrinkage.

The worst: Spike. Sorry dude.

It was great to hear Tom's musical tribute to NJ. Very heartfelt, and there were a few times during the show when I was on the verge of tears. Whenever Tom laments about how great the Best Show audience and NJ is, I'm always full of emotion. My part of South Jersey was hit by the storm, but no damage or power out thankfully. Just a tree down a few houses away. But to watch what was happening with the shore, which like many NJ-sians is a place that is visited by me frequently at all times of the year, was so heartbreaking.

However, from the pictures I've seen and from what I've heard on the local news, there was only a small part of the Atlantic City boardwalk that was damaged from the storm. There was a section north of the casinos that was washed away by damaging waves. The main boardwalk where the casinos and main attractions are located escaped relatively unharmed. The dunes inbetween the boardwalk and the beach saved it from any damage. AC was still hit hard though with flooding and wind.
"Too local? It's gotta take place somewhere! What am I supposed to do this show on the astral plane?!"

Best: the conversation between Tom and Mike about their experiences in the storm.  Just a real moment between two friends. And then Mike's smutty reference to shrinkage to cap it, getting us closer to Best Show Normal again.  But I understand the house-shaking fright: I was in Cambridge Mass at the very outskirts of the storm (it was a HUGE storm) with winds blowing up to 60-70 mph in gusts and felt my 3rd floor apartment shaking so visible by desk chair was shaking with me sitting on it.  Felt just like the earthquake we had earlier in Oct up here. When something like that happens you being to think that ANYTHING can happen- your house is supposed to be permanent, solid as a rock.  I can only imagine how fucking scary it must have been to endure even stronger more sustained winds... during the whole night.

Pledge to the Best Show everyone, get your Coop shirt and get some money to WFMU

I'm only a little way in, but it's so awesome how Tom glides seamlessly from emotional talk about the devastated shore places he loves so well, to a funny-as-hell time travel fantasy about the Rat Pack in their tuxes interacting with the ham-and-eggers in present-day Atlantic City.  I gather we'll get back to the emotional stuff.  But it's so clear that beneath the jaundiced eye he casts on his fellow New Jerseyans, there beats a big heart full of love.

The worst: That t-mobile ring tone.

The best: The spirit, dear Lord, the spirit! What a great station, what a great show, what a great host! Thank you, Tom.

Just a great, uplifting but still funny show from a fine man. I know you don't go for the mawkish, Sammy Maudlin stuff, but thanks, Tom.

Yes. I love Sinatra madly, but don't get the impression that he would normally be a big Tom favorite, so I took his presence as an exceptionally sincere tribute to New Jersey artists.
