The name Hayes Davenport sounds like one of those new folk rock singers.

Was late listening to the show and wanted to chime in that I'm still doing "Elvis doing Monty Python" impressions out loud and cracking myself up

Last night's Candy show was triumphant.

Maybe it's because I was on hold for 2 hours filled with pre-call anxiety (the show ended before I could get on the show, and I'm not complaining about that ate all because that's part of the experience) but I called just before the cold wind and dripping faucet sections, and realized my contribution to the topic would be just trivial fluff, yet trivial fluff that somehow MATTERED in the universe of this show.

I don't know if either Tom downplayed how many much he prepared the arc of last night's show, or if it was all ad hoc, or a combo thereof. But it played out like a MUSICAL, if you figured in the Keane karaoke in the collage. (And this was right after the Tony Awards, so who knows.)

In the end, last night's show was unforgettable and a classic. Maybe not a fun classic, for reasons out of the show's control. But a solid -- if dark at times -- all-time best Best Show.

Jason's comment about old lovers was the LOL highlight of the show, if we're talking just LOL moments here.

I was waiting for Tom's taxi story to climax with him being rescued from the hotel cab line by Cassius.

Instant classic show.  Unreal.

And a special hat tip to Tom for saying (and not saying, as appropriate) exactly what so many of us are thinking about as of late.

For what it's worth... hang in there.  Good guys win.

If Mike is cast into the outer darkness with Paul F. Tompkins, Aimee Mann, Ted Leo, John Hodgman and others who have contributed so much to the Best Show, I think I'm finally fucking done with it.

I haven't listened to the show yet, what happened? Tom wasn't just joking around like usual?

Question about last week's show (with Kurt Vile, Bob Mehr)

What was that line Tom had about Father John Misty? He said "That guy is like x meets y".

I think X was a musician and Y was someone known to be sociopathic,

Two notes on the sound collage: 1) "My Ding-A-Ling" sounded like a Nazi rally, albeit an even more surreal one, in this context; 2) nice use of Redd Kross' "Peach Kelli Pop."

A show that actually made me feel a little better about things.  Thanks, Tom.
