Kiss' Arena Football Team: AMC's Next Reality TV Series
Paul Stanley says the show is an 'opportunity to see the making of our team of rebels'

When Kiss first announced that they had invested in an arena football team, which of course they had named the L.A. Kiss, vocalist-bassist Gene Simmons said, "There's been a lot of attention to detail . . . so that people don't think this is a rock band in football helmets." And he underscored that statement saying, "This is real football."

Now Kiss have found a way to show just how real the team is: reality TV. AMC has ordered 10 episodes of an unscripted series chronicling the first season of the arena football team the Los Angeles Kiss, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In addition to the players, the show will feature Doc McGhee – the longtime manager of the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees – as well as its owners, Simmons and Paul Stanley.

"We are thrilled to partner with AMC in bringing our show to the viewing public," Stanley said. "Anyone who knows Gene and I knows we have never played by the rules. This opportunity to see the making of our team of rebels, the L.A. Kiss, from behind the scenes will once again show everyone that we play to win."

Last year, Simmons told Rolling Stone that the L.A. Kiss was just one more part of what he called "Kiss Kulture." The perennial salesman pitched a chance to buy season tickets to see "the only football team in Los Angeles of any kind" and get a free Kiss concert ticket included in the price. "What's wrong with that?" Simmons asked. "Your choices are mortgaging your home to get a ticket for the NFL, or you can come to our air-conditioned arena facilities and you'll have the time of your life."

An AMC exec said the as-yet-untitled one-hour series would capture the "trials and tribulations" of establishing a sports franchise. The show will premiere this summer.

Ever do nothing and gain nothing from it?
Ever feel stupid and then know that you really are?
Ever think you're smart and then find out you aren't?
Ever play the fool and then find out that you're worse?

I hope the arena football show lasts longer than this one probably will

Kiss vocalist-bassist Gene Simmons has signed on to co-produce a Lifetime series titled Ugly Models about a U.K. modeling agency that works with "character models with unique and unusual looks," as it makes its way into the U.S. market. The show will document how the business adapts to a different market.

The agency's motto is, "Any beauty can be airbrushed but we want to have true character." It currently represents over 1,000 models, reportedly between the ages of 18 and 100 and sizes six and 30. Among its models are the Guinness World Record bearer for the tallest man – Sultan Kösen, who is just over eight feet tall – and a woman with 2,520 piercings. It has been in business since 1969.

Gene Simmons Partners With WWE Studios To Launch Horror-Movie Label
Quote
KISS frontman Gene Simmons has partnered with WWE Studios — the film, TV and digital-content division of the wrestling conglomerate — to launch horror movie label Erebus Pictures. Erebus will finance and co-produce three films, starting with Temple, which was acquired and developed by WWE Studios.

Erebus, named after the Greek primordial deity representing the personification of darkness, will shop worldwide rights on all movies and use WWE's platforms, including flagship shows Monday Night Raw and SmackDown, to market its movies.

"The horror genre continues to fascinate me as it proves to be endlessly thrilling and engaging for audiences," Simmons said in a statement. "I am so thrilled to be working with the masterminds from WWE Studios in launching Erebus Pictures."

WWE Studios president Michael Luisi added, "Horror films fall into a genre that thrives on genuine passion, and I believe this partnership truly capitalizes on that sentiment and supports our vision. I am confident that Erebus will provide audiences with an unprecedented horror experience."

Temple was written by Matt Savelloni and will follow a team of highly trained operatives who get trapped inside an isolated military compound after its artificial intelligence is shut down. The team begins to experience strange and horrific phenomena as they try to determine who or what killed the team previously stationed there. A director has not yet been announced, but principal photography on Temple is expected to take place this summer.

Erebus' second feature will go into production later this year.

Bradley Buchanan negotiated the deal on behalf of WWE Studios.

Simmons is represented by Kleinberg Lange Cuddy & Carlo.

Recent WWE Studios films include Halle Berry's The Call and Oculus. Upcoming films include Aaron Eckhart's Incarnate; Killing Hasselhoff, starring Ken Jeong, David Hasselhoff and Hulk Hogan; The Marine 4 starring Real World star turned WWE wrestler The Miz; Dean Cain's Vendetta; and Randy Orton's The Condemned 2.

Oh, and here's a Where Are They Now? on Dale Torborg, who portrayed the KISS Demon with WCW in the late 90s. Couple of notes here:
  • He "debuted" during a one-song KISS "concert" after the main event on an episode of Monday Nitro, making it one of the lowest-rated segments in the show's history.
  • The "Demon" character was originally supposed to be the beginning of a stable called The Warriors of KISS, in which the other original members of the band would have a wrestler representing their look and gimmick; instead, he was placed in a stable with Vampiro and The Insane Clown Posse called The Dark Carnival.
  • KISS/Gene maintained all licensing and merchandising rights.

the name Dale Torborg is perfect. sounds like something tom and Jon would make up for the guy who played the demon in the late 90s.

Things really break down in the last minute. Gene is singing into a weird voice slowdown thing, Ace or "Ace?" doesn't seem into it, and Paul Stanley just starts doing his own thing.

I remember the Demon debut...I was pretty disgusted.  I guess that's why I wasn't surprised when I turned in TV to Kiss Football

Joshcuradio! Good to see you're still around.

Anything on the Internet that says "Destroys" is automatically wrong, although if there's anybody who knows about "Destroyin'" it's Paul Stanley.
