By Kory GrowFebruary 10, 2014 5:30 PM ETWhen Kiss first announced that they had invested in an arena football team, which of course they had named the L.A. Kiss, vocalist-bassist Gene Simmons said, "There's been a lot of attention to detail . . . so that people don't think this is a rock band in football helmets." And he underscored that statement saying, "This is real football."Now Kiss have found a way to show just how real the team is: reality TV. AMC has ordered 10 episodes of an unscripted series chronicling the first season of the arena football team the Los Angeles Kiss, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In addition to the players, the show will feature Doc McGhee – the longtime manager of the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees – as well as its owners, Simmons and Paul Stanley."We are thrilled to partner with AMC in bringing our show to the viewing public," Stanley said. "Anyone who knows Gene and I knows we have never played by the rules. This opportunity to see the making of our team of rebels, the L.A. Kiss, from behind the scenes will once again show everyone that we play to win."Last year, Simmons told Rolling Stone that the L.A. Kiss was just one more part of what he called "Kiss Kulture." The perennial salesman pitched a chance to buy season tickets to see "the only football team in Los Angeles of any kind" and get a free Kiss concert ticket included in the price. "What's wrong with that?" Simmons asked. "Your choices are mortgaging your home to get a ticket for the NFL, or you can come to our air-conditioned arena facilities and you'll have the time of your life."An AMC exec said the as-yet-untitled one-hour series would capture the "trials and tribulations" of establishing a sports franchise. The show will premiere this summer.
