Cupcakes are nothing but cake! If you like cake better than pie, then say you like cake better than pie.

Not true.  There's something aesthetically different about cupcakes and cake.  If you offered me a piece of pie and a piece of cake, I would probably choose pie.  If you offered me a piece of pie and a cupcake, I would probably go for the cupcake.
The "probably" is to account for weird flavor combinations: german chocolate cake would beat grape pie, blueberry pie would beat out plain yellow cupcake.
Put a piece of cake up against a cupcake of the same flavor, and I'll always go with the cupcake.  There's something I like about the size of them, their perfect little shape, and how they're so very hard to share.  I love them!

The grad students in the psychology department at my workplace have semi-regular pie parties, where everyone bakes a different kind of pie. They're a great idea - lotsa fun and lotsa food. Each pie party so far has featured an experimental pie. This past weekend the experimental pie was:

CAKE PIE.

It was, basically, an affront to nature: a store-bought cake jammed into a pie shell, and re-baked. I didn't try it, and I expect to regret it for the rest of my life.

I tend to feel comfortable casually swinging both ways between the two "choices" - however, I did vote for, and have a default preference for, cake.

With that said, there is nothing more horrific within the world of cakes and pie than the pecan pie.

Seriously.

I chose the obvious answer and that is BOTH.

Seriously, you cannot go wrong with either cake or pie. Who can possibly choose between a slice of apple pie or a slice of chocolate cake? You take both and worry about the consequences later.

However, brownies are my favorite baked good, more so than cake or pie.

Can I get some rationale for this insupportable position? I bet you voted for McCain.
