Return of Q-Tip
« on: August 02, 2008, 03:38:14 PM »
Tribe Called Quest was my favorite group from ages 12-17. Then they started to fall off and Q-Tip went off the deep end in the same way that Andre 3000 and Devendra Banhart have. I guess the 7 years off have been good for him. His new album is supposed to come out soon and there is a song from it on his myspace. Its sounds like the worst period of TCQ, but it still sounds great to me. Its crazy how still to this day, nobody has been able to match his style of smart but regular guy with a calm flow.

Anyways, I am just excited that my all time favorite rapper seems poised for a comeback that won't be embarassing.

Sounds great to me too. I'm officially excited about this new album.

I liked his Kamaal the Abstract album aswell, at least parts of it. It's pretty uneven. (And "unreleased" apparently, according to wikipedia.)

I've been sorta kinda waiting for this for what, almost a decade since his solo? Yikes. I'm afraid, but still wanting to hear it. It's hard to capture that kind of magic again, especially when you're out of the game as much and as long as he has been.

Also, that new song isn't my favorite but it's good and you're right it's not embarrassing at all.

I just saw A Tribe Called Quest at Rock the Bells in Chicago a couple weeks back. They put on a hell of a show, but I had trouble enjoying it because I realized partway through the set that I had lost my keys. I live over 200 miles away from Chicago.

Also, Phife Dawg has definitely not aged as well as Q-Tip. He was looking a bit rough. But God bless the both of them regardless.

I went to the Mansfield, MA show and thought they were really fun. I know a lot of people hate on live rap (which I'll agree often sucks) but I thought a lot of the acts at the show were great.
