I suspect you're right, unfortunately. Did anyone see Maureen Dowd's column today? Scary stuff. A lot more fundamentalist Christian nonsense and meanspiritedness. Admittedly, a lot of this stuff is guilt by association, delivered in Ms. Dowd's own special style, but then you're judged by the company you keep. Ideally at least, that ought to be the case.

In any event, I think the right argument for the Democrats to be making about the selection of Palin is that it shows very poor judgment on the part of Senator McCain.

I thought so too, but if people love her, then this won't hold any water. This selection is starting to seem more like evidence of very sharp judgement on McCain's part.

I think the Republicans took all the dumbest parts of the Obama phenomenon ("Yes We Can" videos and the like) and discovered the right wing mirror image of the stupid-person's Obama.  In other words, someone who is attractive mostly based on being sexy, young, "exciting" for being sexy and young, and different for being not old and not a white man.  We should remember that a long time before Palinmania there was all that stupid Obama Girl shit and the like.  Both teams are exploiting the total idiocy of the populace here. 

As for Palin, specifically, I'm starting to think of her as a modern day Andrew Jackson.  She could probably get us all psyched about genocide, no problem.
