the backstory of Tor
« on: September 25, 2008, 03:48:43 PM »
I was listening to some of the older 2001-2002 episodes and there's mention of a guy named Tor who was causing a ruckus. I guess he has a blog too:

Can any of the old-timers give some history on Tor vs. Tom?

I'd like to know what Tor was doing in Dallas in November of 1963. I think there's a story there.

That blog is absolutely horrifying.  Tor is an old mutant troll. He's the spiritual godfather of He Who Shall Not Be Named.

Any truth to the rumors of a connection between this Tor and Mr. Halversom?
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Masterofsparks was later found impaled on a recently-restored Columbus lamppost, with a note fixed to his shirt saying "You don't ask questions"
"Son, there's a thin line between crazed and rabid"

Wow, you're not kidding. He ends every post with "Stay on groovin' safari,
Tor" and instead of writing "I" he says "moi."  :-[

He used to post on the WFMU messageboard (RIP), he was pretty crazy and I think he was the first to get banned.

Sorry for the extreme bump, but I recently heard the July 10, 2001 episode where Tom mentions Tor and some of the other message board "cockroaches." Tor calls in, does some horribe shtick, eventually gets hung up and Tom says he's banned. Then (I believe) during the Perry Farrell episode, someone calls that Tom says is banned, or at least his "other personality" was. I took this to be Tor. Finally for the whole point to this bump: the guy sounded exactly like Fredericks. I guess if I had reference times someone could agree with me or tell me I'm crazy.

Amazing. I'm working my way forward through the archives and just listened to these shows. It's cosmic, man...

In that "crusading" show, Tom saves most of his ire for some douche who kept abusing FMU DJ's on the message board under various user names. He seems mostly okay with Tor, until Tor calls over and over with different brands of schtick, which prompts the ban (although I can't recall hearing him get banned on the air). He called up like 5 times during that Perry Farrell show, and Tom insisted he had a lifetime ban each time.

I can hear some resemblance between his voice and Fredricks', although I also swear I hear at least one guy in every old show who sounds vaguely like Fredricks.

Tor looks eerily like one of my uncles. I read some of his blog. It's pretty fascinating.

Do you believe this is a coincidence?
