Baltimore Round Robin

I am debating going to see this next week. I’m not really familiar with any of the bands, but I feel like a weird-format show like this could be either a crazy, unusual blast or an obnoxious, terrible trainwreck. Does anyone have any experience with any of these acts or this kind of show? Is this some new thing that’s been going on that I haven’t heard about yet?

The venue it’s playing in my town is a particularly stogy, stuffy club that usually hosts very expensive jazz shows for old people, so if this event works it could be interesting to see the place repurposed into a place of crazy fun for young(ish) people, so that might be fun. On the flipside, if the turnout’s not great I can see it maybe being a little awkward.
I'm warning you with peace and love.

I know a couple of the guys on this tour (actually, Jana Hunter was the person who turned me on to the Best Show!) and as far as I know, all of the bands are great and fun loving. It's interesting how they're combining the more low key acts (like Jana Hunter and Beach House) with the more poppy or thrashy stuff (like Adventure and Double Dagger) by giving them different nights. I really like this concept. Plus, it gives the spotlight to lots of the Baltimore/Wham City, etc. people who are associated with Dan Deacon. He's got definite draw, so I feel like he's using his success in a really positive way.
You'll have a wonderful time, no matter what. I wish that this tour was coming somewhat closer to me, but dems the breaks when the closest city is Albany.  Go! Go! Go!

-lexie mountain boys
-nautical almanac

Not sure I could say I like or don't like either 'band' (more like performance group), but they are worth seeing. They are big on creating a legitimately scary vibe onstage that almost has nothing to do with music. What I remember of Nautical Almanac raises the hair on my neck.

Jana Hunter is excellent.

I'm (old) not familiar with any of these bands, but I really like they format they described for how they've set up the event. Even at the worst, I'll bet you one of these bands becomes something you keep track of in the long term. Can't hurt.

I know some of these bands, more as people than as bands:

I've never seen Lexi Mountain Boys but I know Lexie and she is awesome and this tape I have of them suggests that if you have the opportunity you're pretty much obligated to see them.

Double Dagger are awesome in a Shellac-does-songs-about-graphic-design way.

WZT Hearts are a really good  atonal improvisational avant noise band.  I am really good friends with some of those guys, so I'm biased.  Their music is not really my thing, but they're really good artists if that is of any help(??) and they live in a really cool building (probably not a help at all...).
