Overall, though, I don't think 08 was a very good year for music or movies. I look at all the lists and they seem kind of poor.

I agree, albeit as a matter of opinion rather than judgment. This year's "big releases" didn't really pique my interest. My top ten list is non-existent – I’ll say Autechre’s Quaristice was my “favorite” album of the year, even though no one seems to agree about that.

Tell Tale Signs/Bob Dylan.

Even his knock-offs are better than what everyone else is offering.

I am developing my top 20-25, but Mike stole what is probably my number one. I am still considering between 2-3 choices for the top spot.

Not in order of preference:

Then why number them?!?!?!! You people are giving me the math/gaslight treatment, aren't you?

I liked it quite a bit, although I don't know if it would be in my top 10.

...was neither released nor reissued this year.  But I "discovered" it this year:

The Soft Boys - Underwater Moonlight

So brilliant.  I wish I would have been cool.

OK I finally got over the name and "discovered" Jay Reatard 2006-2007 Singles.
1. My Prerogative - Bobby Brown
2. Every Rose Has Its Thorn - Poison
3. Straight Up - Paula Abdul
4. Miss You Much - Janet Jackson
5. I'll Be There For You - Bon Jovi
6. Toy Solider - Martika
7. Good Thing - Fine Young Cannibals

Here are some of my faves:

Beach House - Devotion
Vivian Girls - S/T
Deerhunter - Microcastle
The Accidental - There Were Wolves
The Capstan Shafts - Fixation Protocols
The Black Angels - Directions to See a Ghost
Cut Copy - In Ghost Colors
Frightened Rabbit - Midnight Organ Fight
Helvetia - Acrobats
Girl Talk - Feed the Animals (forgot this one)

Also like the latest Stereolab and Mogwai albums, but I wouldn't rank them up there.

I've been really liking that tune "Sister Morphine" from the Rolling Stones album Sticky Fingers that I got from the library. I know it's not a whole album, and was released over 35 years ago, but I'd still like to submit it. I really haven't listened to much else this year.

Grampall Jookabox, Ropechain

Bizarre hybrid of stompin' blues and folk and hip-hop.  Album that bewildered at first and gradually became a favorite.

Some 2008 stuff.

Autechre - Quaristice

Big Dipper - Supercluster (this should count)

Wire - Object 47

Spiritualized - Songs in A&E

Eat Skull - Sick to Death

Jay Reatard - Singles 06-07

That's all I can think of that actually came out in 2008.

Some older stuff I was turned on to in 2008:

Strapping Fieldhands - Wattle & Daub

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Facing Future

The Threshold HouseBoys Choir - Forms Grows Rampant

Black Tambourine - Complete Recordings

And that's ten, so I'll stop.
