Is Pudge a Wurster skit?
« on: December 22, 2006, 08:07:07 PM »
I hope you all don't think I'm stupid for posting this poll, but I'm genuinely interested in what other listeners think. I know Pudge hasn't called in the past few weeks. (I don't think?) But whatever the case, I'm sure you have some opinion. At first I though he was a great caller and then when he started talking about quantum physics and stuff I though it wa sone of the greatest calls of all time, I thoroughly enjoyed it. And then after that I thought it might just be a low-key skit. It's hard to tell, but sometimes he kind of does sound like he could be JW, I mean if he didnt sound anything like Wurster I wouldn't have ever even suggested anything. Well, get voting people!

Who in the HELL is John Wurster? I'm sorry, but that name just kinda sounds made up.

It's some weird WWF (or the like) panel with an emotional fan in a highschool gym...I've seen it before and it kills me every time.

two things:

It's Pynchon and there is a longer clip of that wrestling fan which is even funnier.

It's still real to me dammit.

As I always say, and no offense to this hypothetical Wurster fellow, there are no skits on TBSOWFMU. Just amazingly like minded and like voiced sociopaths and maniacs that mysteriously gravitate to Tom's voice.

Kind of like Art Bell, but at 8:00 on a Tuesday. And with murder.

I think he still does the show on the weekends.  The shows I have heard (which are rare) sound like he's living in Guam or something and has a new wife?

I remember back in the good old days, working on projects in the old architecture studio until 5 am listening to Art Bell.  Now I have to be at work at 6:30, so I don't get to listen much.
Breakfast- I'm havin' a time
Wheelies- I'm havin' a time
Headlocks- I'm havin' a time
Drunk Tank- not so much a time
George St.- I'm havin' a time
Brenda- I'm havin' a time
Bingo- I'm havin' a time
House Arrest- I'm still havin' a time

Art Bell used to be great back in the 1997-ish era. He and Mr. KABC (Mr. KFI at the time) got me hooked on the radio.

Ever been to Pahrump? It's a sweet little town with a nice hot spring just on the other side of the California border. Back when Art lived there he ran KNYE which was a super sweet station, Art had decent taste. I even had a KNYE bumper sticker on my car (given away for free at the local Casino hotel).

I'm actually an act. I might call up the show and act like a guy at art school, but in reality I'm the inventor of the Book-O-Tronic Brain Stimulisor. It has not been confirmed that it was related to any deaths. I talk to Tom every week to script out every word.

Sorry to ruin the illustion, guys. Guess I'll have to invent a new character. Maybe a guy who reads a lot of newspapers.

Of course, Pudge doesn't sound like Jon Wurster (at least to me) - so I guess what the poll is asking is if Wurster is somehow involved?

I suspect is steinberg-like meaning there is some extracuricular connection but it doesn't have a lot of Tom involvement.

who knows?

1. My Prerogative - Bobby Brown
2. Every Rose Has Its Thorn - Poison
3. Straight Up - Paula Abdul
4. Miss You Much - Janet Jackson
5. I'll Be There For You - Bon Jovi
6. Toy Solider - Martika
7. Good Thing - Fine Young Cannibals

Well from the results of the poll it appears most people do believe it is JW. That doesn't necesarily mean it truly is. I do have a recollection of Pudge going "Wait, whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut?". That says enough for me.

Any number of people have done the "whaaaat" bit without the collusion of TS or JW--or so I believe.  I mean, hell, I could do it, if I felt like it, simply because I'm aware of the schtick.

The thing is, though I did vote in this poll (largely because I can't resist an opportunity to state an opinion), when it really comes down to it, I don't give a hoot.  As long as I'm entertained, I am, well, entertained.  And, failing the ability to attain the serenity of one of my dogs, that's the most I can hope for.

One of the things I enjoy most about being a Best Show fan is being duped.  Usually, this is something I try to avoid, and I don't think I'm a particularly easy mark in general.  But I've enjoyed the occasions when I eventually figure out that some particular bit, character, or statement is a hoax.  The unfolding of events is enjoyable and satisfying, and I usually find that I admire the perpetrator of the hoax for his (or her) cleverness and for having maintained credibility up to some point at which the hoax is revealed or becomes apparent.  There is never any shame for having been duped, and no loss or harm in it -- it's just comedy.  As for Pudge, I didn't think Wurster was involved, but if he is, I'll just be amazed at how he disguised his voice.  I chose the answer about quantum physics and Pynchon, knowing full well that the full story may or may not be revealed at some point.

I thoroughly enjoyed the time that Tom was allegedly considering a deal with satellite radio, up to and including Tom's tearful revelation that the deal fell through and Tom's life was left a shambles, or so he claimed.  I suspended my disbelief and just enjoyed it.  Nicely done.
