The Best Show is poisoning my brain.
« on: November 12, 2008, 04:46:53 PM »
So, I was at the King Khan and BBQ show on Monday (a mediocre show, btw. totally phoning it in) and during the great song "Waddling Around", the doo-wopishness of the song made me think of Spike.  So now, instead of being present in the show, I'm wondering what Spike would think of it, and then I'm imagining Spike saying, "Ehhhh, I don't know about this King Kong and Barbiedoll band...."

Help me.

Next time something like that happens, yell out exactly what you're thinking.  There might be a best show fan nearby thinking the same thing.

The two shows of theirs I've seen on other occassions have been the same - what floppy, mediocre disappointments they are onstage. What gives, guys?
I'm warning you with peace and love.

I saw them open for Mission of Burma a few weeks ago and thought they were really great.  They got the crowd into it and were anything but disappointments on stage.  pro-fun.

I fail to see the problem here.

Oh, I know they CAN be awesome, and I love their songs. But they are not always top notch.  They were playing to a packed house and it felt like they didn't want to be there.  I've heard stories about how moody mark bbq can be, and this seemed to be one of those nights. I guess my Spike fantasies kept me entertained.
Imagine Spike singing "If you see herrrrr, waddling around...." with a thought bubble of a grotesquely obese Hilary Clinton floating above him.

i saw them last nite and they were having a really good time, lots of smiling, lots of laughing, small club with lots of people, and TONS of dancing- it was great!  and when the last song came, at the PERFECT moment, right when they kicked it off, fizzy beer came showering from the crowd- so much fun.  and then they left, "all you youngbloods, keep rock'n'roll in your heart..."

I completely understand you, hate/hugman. If I meet anyone from Philly, I ask them about Manayunk. Anytime someone brings up Kevin Smith, I get angry. I even played "Good Vibrations" during an election results viewing party and laughed to myself thinking of McCain playing the theremin. It's a part of us that will never die. Or even be silenced, for that matter.

And I'm proud.

They're more than just stories.

I've recently found myself saying "I don't like it" in conversation with some frequency. I didn't know where that phrase was coming from at first, but taking notice of my inflections, it was immediately clear: Oi don't loik it. Thanks PBR.
