Omar deserves an award all year.  even though i listen to the show, i read every post and it's tough- theyre long and in-depth, dense and brilliant!  that's a lot of hard work and it's all meat and potatoes, no milk and honey.  Omar belongs on best show shoulders.

Julie needs deserves an award this year.  Steve in NoHo gets my vote for rookie of the year, although Samir gets my chips for Caller of the Year.  Best Call is hugman's, "1,000 fights" and dfk's, "The Dirtbombs meet A Friend of Tom" going neck and neck.

the heave ho's/GOMPs are tough, there have been so many well-played heave ho's.

steve in north hollywood deserves rookie of the year hands down. not because he's a nice guy and a good sport, because he IS both both of those things, but because he offered to sing tom a song to cheer him up when tom was having a meltdown of sorts (i don't know how else to describe it.)

Anyone know when this was?

I just want to put my support behind "Tom Jameses James" as the best dismissal of the year. That was essentially the "There Will Be Blood" of GOMPS.

Also, "1000 Fights" was fantastic.
I'm warning you with peace and love.

According to the archives, and my show tat's (I get a tattoo to commemorate every time that I call in*), that show was on AUGUST 5th 2008, with the topic "The Little Things!"  It was also the week before H-Man made his on-the-air debut.

Thanks again for any and all support!  Tonight's show will be a W for all of us!!!

I want Steve to win Rookie of the year because he's such an awful try hard that he went away and worked out how to not be such an awful try hard. He managed to out-effort the problem of putting too much effort in.

Duely noted.

THANKS EVERYBODY!!!  And MOST importantly, thanks Tom, Mike, all the guests and the Archives page for keeping me entertained for hours and hours while I'm chained to a desk five nights a week.

This was a terrifically fun show. There were some upsets (the Spike heave-ho triumped over some fierce competition) and some that went exactly as I thought they would (Steve from North Hollywood! Because of all the Mickey Rourke talk, I pictured him jumping from the top rope to accept his award).

And although Tom mentioned it on the air, I have to give props to Trinsky, who did an inhuman amount of work preparing for this thing. The little clip montages for each award were great!
I'll probably go into the wee hours.
