New FWD found: lead singer of Eagles of Death Metal
« on: December 09, 2008, 10:18:22 AM »
I enjoyed a couple of the songs of this band, for the most part meh, but reading the guys Random Rules on the AV Club... Holy moly, this is hate pit material.
http://www.avclub.com/content/feature/random_rules_jesse_hughes_of

offending material:
Quote
The A.V. Club: This is your first time trying this guy's stuff?

JH: It's like my third. I went to rehab a while ago, 'cause everybody was convinced that I had a problem with drugs, but I was like, "I have no problem. I love them." I went to Promises [treatment Center] and I learned something: There is no disease with drugs or alcohol; there are simply people who whine too much and people who don't. Watching someone who sold their child to a crack dealer feel sorry for themselves because it was a "disease" makes me want to beat their fucking head in. I've learned that if something sucks, I stop. I've never not been able to pay the bills, and I'll tell you right now: I don't know what any of what I just said means, but what I'm doing right now makes me want to pay everybody's bills

Quote
JH: Do you know what time it is right now?

AVC: It's about elev—

JH: It's 4:20, baby! It's 4:20. Since I can't "puff-puff-pass," I'm just going to puff-puff the magic dragon.

Quote
he has built a laboratory in his parents' house in Pasadena where he makes pharmaceutical-grade methamphetamine. It's full-tilt boogie. It costs more than cocaine. And it's quite an expérience. I'm about to snort up two fingers of crank right now, and we're going to get down. Listen to this, boy, here we go. Hope you can hear the snorking.

I have a prediction to make: The Eagles of Death Metal will always be successful, and nothing bad will ever happen to Jesse Hughes. Especially not anything bad to do with drugs, or him taking too many drugs or spending too much money on drugs.
I'm warning you with peace and love.

I actually like to follow this song up with Audio Two's "Top Billin',"

Hey, he might be a drug-addled bozo, but at least this guy knows his hip hop.

one of the first rap songs of any sort.

ive never heard their music (im listening to amazon samples right now), but have always had an aversion to them simply by how he looks.  im fully aware i should never judge a book by its cover, but i do it- and im usually right- this article merely proves it.

PS this music is awful.

He looks like the dude that took John C. Reilly and Dirk Diggler to the asian-boy-molesting, Sister-Christian-singing coke dealer's house in Boogie Nights.  You know, the old buddy of Reilly's who signaled the coming of the "dark times" of the eighties.

Also, at least he hates Gene Simmons for the way he treated Terry Gross.

Thats the most of ironic part of the interview. The person who is tied for the most class-less interview criticizing the other person tied for the other most class-less interview for his classlessness.

These guys are good in spite (or possibly because) of the alleged drug use. I will rock out if they come to town (if the price is right). Sure he seems unsanitary and self deluded, so what. When was the last time you called your mother?

The guys sounds like a trainwreck, but at least that interview finally inspired me to check out the Gene Simmons/Terry Gross interview. Hilarious!

Quote
Terry Gross: No. Let's get to the studded codpiece.

Gene Simmons: Oh yes.

Terry Gross: Do you have a sense of humor about that?

Gene Simmons: No.

Terry Gross: Does that seem funny to you? Are you --

Gene Simmons: No, it holds in my manhood.

Terry Gross: [laughs] That's right.

Gene Simmons: Otherwise it would be too much for you to take. You'd have to put the book down and confront life. The notion is that if you want to welcome me with open arms, I'm afraid you're also going to have to welcome me with open legs.

Terry Gross: That's a really obnoxious thing to say.

This man "respects women," so BACK OFF!

Ugh. I never wanted to do drugs less than I do right now.

I've always figured that these guys were FWDs in the same way that "Stephen Colbert" is an FWD.

Their music is hilarious.

So the choice is whether this band is closer to The Darkness (all irony and smirk) or Ted Nugent (completely serious about being an awful human)?

Either way, not so hot.
