Kevin Smith's latest podcast is amazing Tom rant ammo.
« on: December 19, 2008, 08:06:32 PM »
worth downloading.  he spends the whole thing trying to set it in stone that Zack & Miri not doing so well was 100% NOT HIS FAULT.  HE'S NOT THE ONE WHO DROPPED THE BALL ON THIS ONE!!!

I listened to this earlier and thought the same thing. I don't want to listen to it again -- did he ever place the blame anywhere else? He just sort of made a blanket "This isn't my fault" and then stumbled through the rest of it.

I don't think he ever came to a conclusion.  It was basically like "this should have brought in all my regular audience, and then a whole new audience because of seth rogan!  why didn't it?  not my fault!"

I'm listening to this thing right now and I feel bad for the poor blob. Even though the movie was pure garbage, it's hard putting things out there and waiting for numbers to come in. A truly terrifying and stomach churning experience.

I listened to the whole thing and while I still do feel sorry for him on some level, he is responsible for the worst podcast in the biz.

To a certain point I understand not accepting its failure (failure being relative, it still made a profit) and saying something "Who knows why it failed, who could know such a thing" because that's at least within reality, you probably can't know all the factors. But to flatly say "Whatever it was, I know for certain that it wasn't me" is obnoxious and crazy.

I watched this hunk of garbage over the weekend as part one of a double feature with Pineapple Express. In a week, I will have forgotten pretty much everything about either film.

I do give props to K.Smith for being all edgy by including actual freakshow/pornstar Katie Morgan in the cast, though. Was she having a seizure or something during every scene she was included in? The constant buzz she emits seemed to have blown out my left computer speaker.

I don't think I understand the movie industry.  If the film had a budget of $25,000,000 and grossed $31,047,926, that means it had a net profit of $6,047,926.  Why then is it a failure?  And I don't just mean a failure in Kevin Smith's mind; $6,047,926 isn't a great net profit for any film.  Why are profit expectations so high in the movie industry?

Also, who the hell is Scott Mosier?

I'm not a chicken,  you're a turkey.

Upon viewing the Kevin Smith interview with Jay Leno recently, I make a motion to dismiss Kevin Smith from our collective radar.  For pity's sake, the man is down for the count.

The studio also has to spend money marketing the film. And they don't make a clear 100 percent profit on that gross - the theater operators get a piece of the pie as well.

Kevin Smith DEFINITELY knows how to make money for his studios, but this one is going to just squeak into the black. Unlike most of his movies, this one had an A-list actor who cost more than just about anybody Smith has worked with (with the exception of JERSEY GIRL, and we know how that one fared). Usually Smith has to throw three grand and some Burger King coupons to his 'stars' and they're giddy.

I was flipping through a friends comics and saw that he had the new Batman: Cacophony written by Kevin Smith.

I got about four pages in and then the Joker said "'Natch" and I almost threw up in my mouth. Painfully bad.

Part one was painful but then part two was just the blog going back to his usual creep talk with his lackey, so any amount of sympathy gained was disintegrated, whoops

Yea, but there's something to be said for handling those horrible stomach aches with tact and respect. Take your lumps like a man, smith.
