TV to Tivo
« on: January 08, 2009, 08:07:19 PM »
I just got my courtesy service setup for working for a cable company which included two DVRs and all of the premium channels. Is there anything new starting that should be good? Or anything old that I can jump into with no problems? I already have Flight of the Conchords ready to go but I've been out of the cable loop for so long I don't know what else is good that is still on the air.

Eastbound and Down starts at the same time as FOTC I think.

FOTC starts in a couple weeks, but I didn't know about that show. Is it supposed to be pretty good? I like Will Ferrell and I like baseball. But, I also liked Napoleon Dynamite and baseball and that didn't work out too well.

If you've never seen Superjail it's airing weeknights on Adult Swim. It's basically 11 minutes of amazing animated violence. Tonight is the final episode of the Season, so I suggest you jump into it on monday night/tuesday morning, when they'll start it over from the pilot:

12:15 AM/4:15 AM Monday-Thursday night (technically Tuesday-Friday morning, I guess) on cartoon network/adult swim.

I like to record the entire Adult Swim block and sort through it later. 10 PM-2 AM Sundays. or, 2 AM-6AM Monday Morning if that's easier to record.

Also, Adult Swim got King of the Hill recently. I record it so I can eventually burn the episodes that aren't on DVD. It's on every night of the week, 10-11 PM.

Yes, you can't go wrong with much of Adult Swim, though targeting specific shows is often better because Adult Swim's schedule changes constantly and you'll get tired of always skipping past Family Guy, American Dad and Robot Chicken. In the order in which I'd set up Season Passes if you haven't seen them...

  • Home Movies
  • Sealab 2021 (if/when it airs)
  • Frisky Dingo
  • Moral Orel
  • Aqua Teen Hunger Force
  • Tom Goes To The Mayor
  • Drinky Crow
  • Squidbillies
  • Tim & Eric: Awesome Show
  • Metalocalypse
  • Superjail

In addition, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is pretty good, Curb Your Enthusiasm is good and hard to dislike, Penn & Teller: Bullshit is funny if you're a douchebag, and Sarah Silverman Show has the funniest gay couple on television and the always awesome Jay Johnston (friend of PFT, too).

Also, apparently, on the 18th, they'll start airing the BBC import Look Around You. Also worth a TiVo, IMHO. I didn't know about this one, but I'm glad to see it.

I have nothing to recommend (I don't have cable either, so I'm out of the loop), but I'm glad to hear you found a job.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Thanks MOS. It took me a couple months but it's a big relief. We were at the end of our money when I got the interview.

I'll take a look at all of those mentioned. I'm also going to tivo a certain Showtime show starting in a couple weeks that I should never mention on this board.

The first season of Look Around You is can't-stop-laughing funny.  The second season is funny, but it doesn't match the first.

I remember "Ghosts" as a particularly funny ep.

I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!
