Please read and comment on Bono's NYT op-ed pieces on the air.
« on: January 11, 2009, 12:52:02 PM »
Dear Tom,

This morning I read Bono's op-ed piece aloud to my wife and I thought about how hilarious it would be to hear your commentary on this unique cultural train wreck.  Where to begin?  I'd rather not, because I'd like to hear you talk about it.

Thanks,
Jason
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

(prays): Please God, make Billy Bob Thornton write an op-ed piece for the NYT.

Come on, Jason

I second J. Grote's request.

This is NUTS: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/11/opinion/11bono.html

Apparently, Bono and Robert Evans attended the same learning annex.

That was some full-on looniness to be sure.  He starts off like he's going to talk about the economic situation in Ireland, then veers off into a lot of palaver about Frank Sinatra.

Blah blah blah blah.

It was a shame when Bono hit that tree.  He's never really recovered.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

The Joshua Tree?

Martin - look up Bono hit tree on Google.  That one may not be nearly as comprehensible to the international folks or to Americans under 25.

Hint: it's a different Bono.

Another hint by way of an album recommendation:

I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I got it - just attemped a little bit of U2 comedy.

As for his column, from now on I refuse to read anything U2-related that's not in 3D.

Or cost 500,000 per night to print.

Let's just say an on-air discussion would make it past the very first line: "Once upon a couple of weeks ago ..." Is there any way it would get beyond the "Glasses clinking clicking, clashing crashing" part? And even if it did, I see no way it would make it past "...looking out onto the desert and hills, no gingham for miles. Plenty of miles, though, Miles Davis." Which is a shame, because after that is Bono's dialogue with Sinatra, the part I'd most like to hear recreated on the air.

"... such confidence in nervous times allowing you romance but knocking your rose-tinted glasses off your nose..." I'd like to knock the orange-tinted glasses off Bono's nose.
This may be the year I will disappear.

Oh come on you haters... Bono isn't such a bad guy, just a bit into himself. Remember what a twat he was in the 90's and 80's? Q Magazine and Rolling Stone were declaring him God, and so was he.

All Bono Vox is doing is whoring the new U2 album coming out this spring. He just knows whom to whore to; NYT readers (ie iTunes customers). He's nearly 50. It's amazing, really, that the jingle-jangle-jingle of a Stratocaster could have taken those Irish boys this far.
