As I will be in NYC from feb 15-18(?) I feel it is my duty to check out the local comic shops.

Suggestions from the locals?

I usually drop by Forbidden Planet and Midtown Comics when I visit.

Postscript: I should mention that I would not be surprised to learn if people view Midtown Comics as the Virgin Megastore of comic book shops.

Best New Comic Shop: Rocketship in Brooklyn. Great for indie comics and small press stuff.

Best Comic Shop in Manhattan is Jim Hanley's across the street from the Empire State Building. Very clean and organized.

I'd hit up St. Mark's Comics on St. Mark's before it closes down. If you are a student, you can get a discount. I think it's 10% off. This is the best place to get back issues.

Midtown Comics - Good for mainstream comics.

Jim Hanleys, then Forbidden Planet, and last but not least Midtown C.  For back issues, I llove my local spot on 14th st. and 7th. I've come to hate St. Marks comics.   They've been slippping for years.
