Excerpted from the included letter:

Quote
We are sorry for the delay in sending this out. We had to wait for the price of gold vinyl to drop to more affordable levels before we could get this thing into production. During the recent meltdown in financial markets, a lot of frightened investors sheltered their money in gold vinyl, so this project's costs temporarily shot into the stratosphere.

I hope the James Bond producers read this.  You can't go wrong with a gold vinyl-hording supervillain.

Ken is the only DJ on FMU that *isn't* an amateur.  For shame.

Someone hasn't been listening to Gaylord Fields' show.

Someone hasn't been listening to the rest of the shows on WFMU!

Even the listener hour *isn't* amateurs!

WFMU *isn't* amateurs.

I'll defend this station to my graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavvvve!

I'm definitely an amateur.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

No disgrace should attach to "amateur."  The amateur pursues his/her craft for love, uncorrupted by venal desire.

Jeeps. Nothing wrong with amateurism. It's very old money, aristocratic.

I just meant that Ken does FMU stuff all day long.

Well, it's not like I have a choice.  I can claim to be a professional at a handful of fairly obscure and semi-unrewarding things, but radio ain't one of them.

But actually, Emily, you're right as always - WFMU is swarming with real-life radio pros.  I'm not naming any names, though.

I got mine the other day.  No sign of the SSD premium yet.

I didn't get the SSD premium yet either, as well as two other DJ premiums and the hooded sweatshirt. Over the years usually one item is missing and I don't bother bringing it up because I don't want to sound like an ingrate but, c'mon guys. On the plus side, this is the only gold record I own.

The hooded sweatshirt is definitely worth sending an email about. And I think the SSD DVD is pretty good. There's even an Easter Egg where you can see the video of Andy Breckman getting waterboarded during last year's marathon all uncensored-like.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Did anyone get Evan "Funk" Davies' CD? Mine has this horrible static-y hiss throughout the whole thing (I've played it on a computer, a CD player, a DVD player - still with the hiss),  but I just can't bring myself to exchange it, after Pat already graciously exchanged my t-shirt/sweatshirt for a bigger size, I feel bad bothering him again. (Could anyone post it as audiofiles, is that against the rules?)

It's a difficult balance to strike between giving to WFMU because it's the right thing to do and wanting your shit because you want your shit. Maybe it's time for me to opt for the former and just be glad that WFMU exists in 2009.

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with contacting the station if you didn't get everything you were promised or if something was incorrect. Maybe that makes me a jerk.

If, however, you're hounding the station, sending emails two weeks after the end of the marathon demanding your swag and otherwise being a jackass, you should probably be ashamed of yourself, but I don't think anyone on here is that kind of ingrate.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Right -- if you get paid, you're not an amateur. So everyone other than Ken is an amateur, literally speaking -- but many if not most FMU DJs are "pros" in the non-literal sense of the word, and some are true radio professionals elsewhere. Is everyone happy now? Have I just beaten this poor horse to death? (I think so.)

Anyway, here's hoping that this year's Best Show premium is a toteFWDbag, or maybe a plastic "mug."

I got the SSD premium.  Andy's ventriloquist act is inspired.

I wonder how late this year's SSD plate will be.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.
