I wish he'd call randomly.  Then it would be an exciting surprise to hear from him, but at the beginning of the show Tom gets pumped by good calls, like Hulk Hogan.  And Spike is usually pretty hit or miss and usually a long call.

I'm sure that if he started doing the reviews or something it would be better, but if not, maybe just save Spike for the end of the show when Tom has built enough steam to carry the W?

Absolutely not. Spike's refusal to change and his hilarious idea of "preserving the mystique" are part of the charm. Not every call is a home run, but everyone has their down periods, especially when you've logged as many calls as he has. He has been on the receiving end of some of Tom's funniest stuff. I say let him keep calling, though I wouldn't object to his taking a week off every now and then.
Spike is hilarious, when he isn't trying to be funny. He comes up small when he tries too hard. Just be yourself Spike! You're cannonfodder, not Shecky Greene.

Spike provides moments of sublime comedy, purely by accident.  His refusal to get ANY of Tom's jokes (at his expense), his refusal to bend in any way, shape or form, and his delusion that there's a mystique about him all add up to what I'm convinced is an elaborate scheme that will be hatched one day.

Mark my words.

He's truly nuts.

I had to vote No.  Spike and I start with the cat-of-nine-tails next week, and if I'd voted yes, he'd break my skin for sure.

6-month ban. Just enough to get his act together, maybe get that Blockbuster membership up to date.

Wouldn't the past tense be "heaved ho," not "heave ho-ed?"

Like a sufferer of the Stockholm Syndrome, I voted no.

I don't think he should be permanently heaved ho (I'm counting on Mark's grammar to be correct) but if he's stale on any given night Tom should drop him more quickly

I repeat: try calling on topic sometimes.

It helps to mix things up I think.

But then, I've been called boring before, so I may not be a good judge :)

The Best Show is not a democracy. Tom will let everybody know when Spike has had enough. I personally don't have a strong opinion either way. There have been some great Spike moments and some not so great.
