I noticed Patton Oswalt on last nights flight of the conchords, any chance you are acquainted with them and can have them on your show?  As an Aussie I feel our voice must be heard so I would look forward to the call in section.

I think the show is hilarious but the songs - not so much.

i enjoy the random placement of the songs more than the songs themselves.  those guys are just plain wacky!

The songs were funny last season when it was their whole "hook" (also, most of those songs where like four years old). Now that they've established the context of the show, I think the songs are, at times, pretty weak. There are some exceptions. I'm good with one song per week.

I do sort of like how the other characters get to get into it -- like Murray and Mel. It adds a strange sort of MGM musical quality to it.

I don't think I'd want to hear them on the show though... I've read a lot of interviews with them and, I don't know -- I don't know if they fit into the type of absurdity Tom breeds.

But what do I know?

FotC tend to be pretty straight up in their interviews, from what I've seen.  The Best Show interview lies between a Space Ghost: Coast to Coast interview and, say, a Letterman interview, with Leno way out to the other side.  I'm guessing they might be an ok guest, but more like the Look Around You dude than the Tom Goes to the Mayor dudes.

But in interviews I've read (and it could just be what I've read) they come across as quite literal in everything. Maybe I'm just used to these types of performers to keep their absurdity going, or their characters running outside of the shows context, when really, what does one expect.

But if you really think about it, their absurdity has a quite literal nature so it would make some sort of sense. Brett's bike-helmet wig and the camera taped to a cellular phone come to mind, right off the bat.

You are 100% correct (I forgot about that Camera Phone gag -- even better that they brought it back this season). The whole "literal nature absurdist" sort of blends in with the whole caricature of a New Zealander I suppose. The whole, "we're like you, but different!" Perfect Strangers taken to the absurd limit, I guess.
