I hate it.

If you aren't 100% joking, I think this statement above all others requires a "jpeg?". Come on, man!!

Don't forget, that his mind is not for rent to any god or government.  So, he's not an equal opportunity mind renter.  Boycott this Sawyer fellow!

I don't appreciate the Rush hate :( and yes I'm American. I don't think Rush is the greatest band, but I appreciate their musical talent, and not all their songs are zzz.

I am with you 100%. I have about 15 Rush discs, and like most of them.

I've been going through a rush revival after swearing them off at 17.

Sure do like Farewell to Kings.

I don't get the Rush hate either. They're not my favorite band, but I've heard much worse.

I don't think people "hate" Rush so much as enjoy making fun of the people who like them.

But seriously, even if you limit the universe of bands to "seventies rock" and prog rock, they don't come out looking too good.  We could do a Rush Elimination:  put them head-to-head against ELO, Yes, etc.

I think Rush might be better than Galt Aureus, "the rock/classical fusion band that plays Objectivism influenced music."

How about Rush Limbaugh's Tom Sawyer?

If you've seen the Cage movie "Knowing", this might be a weird case of synchronicity. Or just plain disturbing. Projectile style disturbing.

A modern-day warrior
Mean mean stride,
Todays Tom Sawyer
Mean mean pride.

Though his mind is not for rent,
Dont put him down as arrogant.
His reserve, a quiet defense,
Riding out the days events.
The river.

And what you say about his company
Is what you say about society.
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift.

The world is, the world is,
Love and life are deep,
Maybe as his eyes are wide.

Today's Tom Sawyer,
He gets high on you,
And the space he invades
He gets by on you.

No, his mind is not for rent
To any God or government.
Always hopeful, yet discontent,
He knows changes aren't permanent,
But change is.

And what you say about his company
Is what you say about society.
Catch the witness, catch the wit,
Catch the spirit, catch the spit.

The world is, the world is,
Love and life are deep,
Maybe as his skies are wide.

Exit the warrior,
Today's Tom Sawyer,
He gets high on you,
And the energy you trade,
He gets right on to the friction of the day.

I used to hate Rush as a kid, then sort gave them a chance and thought "Well, they are musically talented, but these lyrics ... oh, brother."  Then one day I sat down behind a drumset and gained a totally new respect.

I "love" Rush.  But I don't love Rush.  I only own 1 disc (Retrospective II), I've never tried to see them in concert.  But if they come on the radio or show up in "I Love You, Man" I crank it up a little.
