yeah, I'm not crazy about their new one.

Built on Squares is better, but I was in college and saw them about twice a week in Norman when DTSWMO came out, so it's been burned into my brain.
Breakfast- I'm havin' a time
Wheelies- I'm havin' a time
Headlocks- I'm havin' a time
Drunk Tank- not so much a time
George St.- I'm havin' a time
Brenda- I'm havin' a time
Bingo- I'm havin' a time
House Arrest- I'm still havin' a time

Wow do my tastes not coincide with others here:

2000 – Fu Manchu – King of the Road
2001 – Soundtrack of Our Lives – Behind the Music
2002 - New Bomb Turks - The Night Before the Day the Earth Stood Still
2003 – Milligram – This Is Class War
2004 – Reigning Sound – Too Much Guitar
2005 – Dirtbombs – If You Don’t Already Have a Look
2006 – The Brought Low – Right on Time
2007 – The National - Boxer
2008 – RPG – Worth the Weight
2009 – Neko Case – Middle Cyclone

This is a very tossed-off list. Any amount of thought put into it would probably replace about half of these.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I didn't like Built For Squares much but Dream That Stuff Was Made Of is a great, fun album. I played Submarine #3 a ton back in 2000.

Choosing just one for each year was painful.  Except for 2005, a year where nearly all music failed me, apparently.

2000: Movietone- The Blossom Filled Streets
2001: Super Furry Animals- Rings Around The World
2002: Lambchop- Is A Woman
2003: Mclusky- Mclusky Do Dallas
2004: The New Year- The End Is Near
2005: Akron/Family- Akron/Family (there has to be an album from 2005 I like more than this one.)
2006: Scott Walker- The Drift
2007: Vic Chesnutt- North Star Deserter
2008: Clinic- Do It!
2009: Either Gui Boratto- Take My Breath Away or Future of the Left- Travels With Myself And Another.  I HAVEN'T DECIDED YET.  I'M SORRY.

Picking one is harder than I thought, but pretty much every year I would be considering a few and then get to THE ONE and think to myself "I don't even have to look at any more"
Breakfast- I'm havin' a time
Wheelies- I'm havin' a time
Headlocks- I'm havin' a time
Drunk Tank- not so much a time
George St.- I'm havin' a time
Brenda- I'm havin' a time
Bingo- I'm havin' a time
House Arrest- I'm still havin' a time

2004: The Hold Steady - Separation Sunday
2005: Terribly depressed and not enjoying music

2007: Paul F. Tompkins - Impersonal
2008: The Dirtbombs - We Have You Surrounded

The Starlight Mints are dead to me after they illegally parked their touring van and trailer in my parking space at work (which sits across the street from The Middle East club).  I got back at them 2009-style by tweeting about it.

Apparently I traded this in at some point, because it's not on my shelf anymore. I don't know why (aside from being broke in 2003 and getting rid of half my collection). Terrific album.

Okay, so it's not just me, then.  2005 gets a big, fat thumbs down!

I'm of the opinion that 2004-2006 were down years for popular music.
