I'm a little bummed about it.  I think he was really talented and had a totally sad, fucked-up life.  Of course, that doesn't mean he should have gotten away with child molestation, but still.  Hopefully Jack Chick comics are not a reflection of reality and a loving Jesus is hugging him right now.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Michael Jackson may have done bad things out of craziness, but I don't think he was a bad person.  And I don't mean he wasn't "Bad," because that he was.

Off the Wall is one of the best pop albums ever.

Farrah Fawcett got John Rittered.

On another forum I'm on there's a thread about famous people dying on the same day as super-famous people (Sky Saxon from The Seeds -- that's "Pushin' Too Hard" on the Nuggets comp, for the less x-treme rock nerds among us -- died today too, getting eclipsed twice).  So far mentioned:

Darby Crash/John Lennon: December 7, 1980
Prokofiev/Stalin: March 5, 1953
Aldous Huxley/JFK: November 22, 1963
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

The Wife just pointed me to the NY Times obit, which mentioned "vigils around the world", including a "on-glove bike ride" in Portland--without any seeming awareness of the douchey hipster irony behind this event.

I then denounced these bikers self-righteously, before remembering that I just spent the last four hours tweeting snotty/snarky/insensitive MJ-death-related posts. I'm a horrible human being.

Not a fan, but

heh

a very appropriate caveat.. (yuck)

Hey I don't know what happened behind closed doors on the ranch..  was he an easy target or did he settle because he had to..  who knows..  ..but his music was amazing, his dancing out of this world, he entertains the hell out of me and most humans, so, yeah I'm really sad.

We're worse than that. We're ghouls.

Is Julie from Cincinnati bored yet?

I hadn't realized just how many unfunny ghouls I had on my Facebook feed until this afternoon.

Man, I did some serious defriending.  I'm not really a huge fan of his, but celebrating the death of anyone not suffering from a debilitating illness is wrong.  There's some real dicks on the internet.

If there is any such thing as grace, that poor man is at peace now.

wait... so Pastor Josh is all for celebrating the death of folks with a debilitating disease??!

I'm sure that must have been a typo. I really, really hope that the sentence which followed was not a typo.

I'm guessing he meant it in the "good that they're no longer suffering" sense?

JBissell was right.  I'm currently spending several hours a day with a family whose patriarch has been struggling with Alzheimer's for years.  There's some bad shit eing said on Facebook and what not, rejoicing in the death of a man whose whole life has bene a struggle.  I don't think that's all right.  Being sad but relieved at my parishioner's death is perfectly normal, and I didn't want to suggest that being glad when someone who has been suffering has died is wrong.  But, no, the last sentence was no typo.

Dear Pastor Josh,

How much like this guy are you? I am going to say right now I think the answer is "pretty close", but I am willing to accept if I'm wrong.

Two things that will be at Michael Jackson's funeral.

1.  A grave blanket.
