Aimee Mann song on Community

Anybody catch "Community" tonight? The used "Wise Up." It was great but I half-expected to hear Paul F Tompkins jump in.

Am I off base in thinking that its usage might have actually had its basis more in The Best Show than in Magnolia? Tom, you should totally sue that guy Dan Harmon.

I'm sorry to say this for such a "too cool for school" comedy crowd, but the furious Chinese Spanish teacher's monologue - particularly "it's none of your business, ok?" and his fake tittering laugh - got about 15 rewinds on the DVR.  The show itself is ok, but that bit was pretty awesome.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

I might've liked it more if I wasn't so sick of Ken Jeong.  There have been a few things that made me laugh in the first two episodes but I've been very disappointed with the show so far.

I'm with jbissell: not completely won over, and I'm not a fan of Ken Jeong.

The way the did the campus protest won me over. I'm unbelievably earnest about my liberal politics. I hate it when the squares send up the hippies. I hate that Mike Judge stuff. So I really appreciated the way the campus protest thing was just loopy and insane. It wasn't putting them down for being earnest, it was just really goofy. You know,  like when Tom says he voted for Lyndon LaRouche.

That and the insane dialogue montage set to "Wise Up." If you don't score that as a base hit your standards are just too high.

Do you mean Tom didn't really vote for LaRouche?  Than what the hell have I been standing in front of this Post Office for?

I think these first two episodes have been good in kind of establishing the characters and I have laughed so I don't consider it a let down at all. Although after all the good buzz I was hoping for more laughs per episode (LPE) than I'm averaging. I'll stick with it though.

And the use of "Wise Up" was great. And Ken Jeong is still funny in my book.
He's this soulless bastard from Siberia. I once saw him shove Fred Savage's face in a toilet.

I'm giving it one or two more episodes because I haven't liked it at all. Not that I can't like two new comedies but Modern Family was a lot better.

I'm with Snogrog on Ken, he hasn't worn out his welcome in my book yet. The show is a bit disappointing after all the hype but the one thing that I have to give the show credit for is they are using Chevy well. Not too silly, not too much, they're easing him back to the right side of comedy. Maybe he'll narrate a Fletch prequel after all.
You look like a really healthy Arthy Lang.

I didn't like Ken Jeong in The Hangover, but I thought that was the best part of the episode. I hope they tone down Abed's pop culture references; that could get annoying in a hurry.

I think its pretty good.
Obviously they will need to tune things up.
If they hit their stride it will be a really funny show.
A poor man's Bronson Pinchot.
