I don't get why SNL doesn't assemble an all-star cast one year. Just a one year thing of SNL members who are funny but never broke it really big to come back for a memorable season. So Lorne would have a few more contracts to pay, but it would give his show a much needed boost and probably huge ratings.
Honestly, the cast at this point is the one thing I wouldn't want them to change. It's pretty great.
But horribly misused. The most talent, by far, but the worst writing, BY FAR. It was really strange to see the old pros lay waste to the material, too. The NPR skit (easy laughs, I know, but I loved it) was refreshing compared to What's Up With That? or a lame Obama knockoff.
Absolutely agree with you about the talent level, though. The evidence of this can be seen on the Vincent Price flashback shows, or the occasional Lawrence Welk skit. Those are right in my wheelhouse, and they're perfect in nearly every way.
This has been my favorite episode (Betty White) in a long, long while.
I feel like SNL's got me in some Stockholm Syndrome-type situation.
