I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.2, and now my HP Laserjet Series 1200 printer does not want to work.

I have downloaded the software recommended by Apple at http://support.apple.com/downloads/HP_Printer_Drivers_for_Mac_OS_X_v10_6

But I get this message when I try to install it:

The system extension "System/Library/Extensions/PACESupport.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update."

Somebody please help me! Waaaah!

Tom.

Not that my advice ever helps, but delete that file (or move it to your desktop in case you have to put it back), and remove any references to it in the "Login Items" area of the Accounts panel of System Preferences.

Then reboot, and see what's what.

"PACE" is a weird copy protection thing by a company called Interlok (http://www.interlok.com/) that you really don't want unless for some reason you really, really need it.  Did your work give you some software that you need a USB key to operate ever?

Otherwise you're modifying the very basics of your operating system for the benefit of some guys somewhere, which can lead to weird problems.  It should have nothing to do with your printer, but it may be interfering with it.

Fixed it. Thanks to all who helped.

I HATE COMPUTERS!

But I love them too.
