There’s a shop in the town where my ladyfriend lives that sells beads, and the name of the shop is “…a bead store”. That’s exactly how it’s written, ellipsis and in lowercase—it really smacks of low self esteem, if a shop can be said to have that. It also could be viewed as the response of anyone who was dragged in there without knowing where they were going ahead of time. “hey, where are we going? Someplace fun? Are we gonna go get ice cream…. Oh, I see. We’re going to …a bead store. I guess I’ll just wait in the car.”
On a similar topic, there’s a store nearby that specializes in scrapbooking stuff—it’s called “Scapbook Zone”, which is fine, I guess. Unfortunately (for them), the background on their had two colors, and as a result the “S” blended in with its background, making it look like the store was called “crapbook Zone”. It was a sad day (for me) when they got a new sign with a more discernable “S”.
