I love the new album, but I think Ted's fighting on the wrong side of the Loudness War. I haven't been able to listen to it all the way through yet. It's not as bad as The Go! Team but it still gives me icepick ear.

Too loud or not loud enough?

My guess is "too loud".

Dynamics get squashed in favor of "loudness".

There are articles written about this topic.  I feel sure.

This is Ted Leo and The Pharmacists, not the Foo Fighters. I do not believe Ted is a dynamics-squasher.

Does his singing voice turn anybody off a little bit? It kind of sounds a little whiny and emoish.

He frequently sounds EXACTLY like Joe Jackson to me.  But I like Joe Jackson, and I LOVE Ted.  I don't get "emoish" at all.  Is there anyone in the business bringing it like Teddy Rockstar?  If there is, I have yet to hear them.

Has the Tom interview of Ted from The Believer been posted? It's 2 years old and tonight was the first I've seen of it.

I really want to go to the Saturday show but my wife's work schedule won't permit it. I'm going Sunday though.
