Jersey Shore

Thanks, MTV. By featuring a select group of miscreants on the show Jersey Shore, you've singlehandedly confirmed the worst stereotypes people have of NJ residents.

On the upside, no one intelligent and/or over 14 watches MTV, so the stereotype is somewhat contained, like a virus.

That's what makes it worse, AC. The stereotypes are being implanted during the audience's formative years.

I watched this program last night with my family since we do enjoy the shore every summer. There were five distinct moments when the 3 of us looked at each other in tacit disappointment. Brows furrowed, shoulders shrugged. Of course, these are all ne'er-do-wells from Staten Island who pour more kerosene on the already smoldering hair gel-fueled fire. What happened to wholesome NJ stereotypes as on display in the fine film Mortal Thoughts starring a young(er) Demi Moore - Filmed in Bayonne and featuring Bowcraft Amusement Park in Scotch Plains...

Also, remember this?

I was outraged that Kenny from the Real World/Road Rules Challenge is not featured on this programme.

Being located far from Jersey, I found myself enjoying the show in a voyeuristic way. Guidosploitation?

There's plenty of alienated intellectuals here who use humor to survive the ennui, alienation, and despair of 21st century life. Are they on the show? They're probably standing off slightly in the distance, making fun of the show. Put them on the commentary track for the DVD release!

Why is scarface an icon for these people?
Tony Montana isn't even supposed to be Italian.

Tony Montana isn't even supposed to be Italian.

I'm going to guess it's the braggadocio and the violence.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

I found out a couple things about this show recently, while doing my thang online:
1) Apparently, 7/8 of the main people they follow are from NYC.
2)One dude apparently punched his girlfriend in the face. On camera.

This lead me to make a couple conclusions. First, being from New Jersey, I'm glad this exists. For lack of a better term, the "guido"-archetype needs a public shaming. Those people are awful in my experience. Shore Trash is just...ugh. I enjoy a nice afternoon in the sun down the shore, but these people just find a way to make it that much less fun. It seems that this particular group has gotten bigger and bigger over the past few years. I mean they were always around, but it seems like there's more of them now. So, if this stereotype has achieved enough notoriety over time to warrant a show in MTV, that means they're close to the "top" so to speak, in terms of relevance. If there're at the top, they will shortly be on the bottom.

I watched about four minutes of it the other night and if it wasn't supposedly reality it would be my new favorite comedy. I got a little bit nauseous and had to turn it off when one girl attempted to end an argument by walking across a room and repeating the phrase "Whatever, look at me". That is a height of superficialism that I try to shield my children from, like a real live Bratz doll.
You look like a really healthy Arthy Lang.
