Position Summary: The Outreach and Government Affairs Associate will work to support both Public Knowledge's government affairs and outreach teams, through constituency building, event organizing, strategizing and relationship building.

Position Status: Full-time

Location: Washington, D.C.

Reports to: Director of Government Affairs; Director of Outreach and New Media

Essential Duties:
• Assists the Director of Governmental Affairs and other PK staff in preparing and executing
a strategy for outreach to Congressional staff, White House staff, Federal agencies and other government bureaus, in order to further Public Knowledge's policy goals.
• Assists the Director of Outreach and New Media and other PK staff in preparing and executing a strategy for outreach to various constituencies, including but not limited to creative professionals, technological innovators, software developers, Internet users, gamers, civil rights and civil liberties groups and groups of color.
• Attends relevant conferences and events and works to raise PK's visibility and credibility both inside and outside of Washington, D.C.
• Maintains an active PK presence across social media platforms.
• Assists in the planning and execution of PK outreach events and initiatives in cooperation with the Events Manager and outreach staff.
 
Qualifications:
• A college graduate with a passion for public policy
• Experience conducting outreach and developing partnerships with a wide range of organizations and constituencies
• Strong communications skills
• A creative self-starter that can devise new, innovative outreach methods
• A willingness and ability to learn complex technological and legal issues quickly
• The ability to produce high‐quality results on tight deadlines and with little oversight
• Familiarity with Capitol Hill or Federal agencies is a plus
