Steely Dan

On this (last weeks) re-run podcast there was the worst band ever and Steely Dan was mentioned a few times, well I just came across this glory and wanted to share it with all of you.

I think the funniest part of this story is that Steely Dan calls Owen Wilson out and says that he has "gangster friends". I'm sorry, but Owen Wilson is not the first person I'd associate with the mob.

That article might've been better if it had been written by someone who has actually heard Steely Dan's music, but then again that might not be "what Tyler Durdern would do" (and lord knows there are some cases where I'd take a "filthy hippie" over a Fight Club fan, and that's saying something).

I think it's obvious the letter was kind of an irreverant goof, and Becker and Fagen (and Fagen's interpreter, if Yacht Rock lore is to be believed) aren't sitting around outraged at Owen Wilson.  Luke, on the other hand, is far more deserving of ire.

Yeah, Owen's response to this definitely made it seem like everyone was already in on the joke. To me, at least.

If I had any influence over Owen Wilson, I'd tell him that he's a funny guy who deserves a better legacy. But at least he's not writing a celebrity gossip blog for steakhouse fratboys, which is what the protag from Fight Club would do, apparently.

WFMU's listenership consists exclusively of "lonely hippies," or so I've heard.

Some of whom are also onanistic shut-ins.  And proud of it.  Dem it. (That last is an hommage to a Dutch speaker on another board I frequent--a little spillover there.  Appropriate given the mention of onanism, no?)

Hehe, true enough, trust me its not the best (for lack of a better word) blog out there... its more to me like Tourgasm is to Tom.
(I'd be a dirty hippy too but I gotta shave my beard now, it scares the little kids here, I guess)

Steely Dan is far from the worst band ever.

Wow, this thread is about to celebrate it's second birthday!

It's reelin' in the years.

LA-area FOT can catch Steely Dan on August 4th at the El Rey, if they so desire.

But why would they?

They do a really great Canned Heat medley if you catch them on the right night.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Actually, on this tour they're spotlighting Becker's little-known solo album 11 Tracks of Whack. I heard they do a mean "Cringemaker".
It ain't ego, it's my love for you.
