Hello, friends.

I'm writing to you because we're into WEEK TWO of the WFMU fundraising marathon. This is the final week, and Tuesday March 13th between 8-11 PM EST is your LAST CHANCE to pledge to The Best Show On WFMU. Your last chance!

We did really well last week with pledges - people came through like champs. But there are still a lot of listeners and podcast fans who have yet to pledge! Are you one of them? If you are, you'd better do the right thing and pledge tomorrow! Even an entry level pledge is appreciated - although if you're a rich person, by all means pledge what you can - it's tax deductable, for the record.

Here are the facts about WFMU: The fundraising marathon is how WFMU earns enough money to keep doing what we do all year long - it's two weeks of fundraising for fifty weeks of fun. If you didn't know, WFMU is a completely listener-sponsored station - we're not an NPR deal - what we do is 100 percent Up To Us. Nobody tells WFMU what to do. And that's what makes the station so special... but it's also the reason that you HAVE to show your support and pledge!

And this is the time to show the support for The Best Show On WFMU. WFMU allows me to do the show the way I want to do it. They don't shape or suggest or veto anything. Again, 100 percent Up To Us. They are the ones who put the show on the air, the ones who host the bountiful archives, and the ones who make the podcast possible (more on that in a minute!). They took a chance on a very unconventional show, so now it's time to say thanks, to stand up and be counted - even if you don't have much to give. It all adds up.

Last week I announced I was looking to get 100 pledges from people who supported The Best Show On WFMU podcast. And plenty of you did that - we broke the 100 pledge goal for week one, so I'm carrying over all additional pledgers for week two. That puts us at something like 70 podcast pledgers needed to make the podcast worthwhile for me and my staff of volunteers. Again, it honestly does take a fair amount of work from a few people to bring that podcast to you every Thursday. We've been doing it for a year now, and we need to see the results.

So if you are a podcast supporter YOU NEED TO PLEDGE THIS TUESDAY between 8-11 PM EST! You need to step up and do it! Save the podcast!

How do you pledge, podcast people? Go to www.wfmu.org and just enter in your pledge there. It's simple. And when you get to the COMMENTS section, say 'I support the podcast!' Non-podcast people can call 800-989-9368. If you choose to vote by calling the 800 number, we'll count it, but everyone on the biz end of things would prefer online pledges from the podcast people.

You can also go to www.wfmu.org to check out all the awesome prizes you get for pledging at different levels - t-shirts and whatnot. But everyone who pledges 75 bucks or more DURING MY SHOW automatically gets my exclusive premium - "The Best You Can Do Is Be Worse Than The Best Show 2007 Victory Fun Pack!" This package includes a 60 minute CD with BRAND NEW AND EXCLUSIVE MATERIAL recorded by SCHARPLING AND WURSTER! That's right, me and Jon knocked out all kinds of new stuff, and I'm telling you, it is great. Do you like Zachary Brimstead? He's on there. How's about Philly Boy Roy? You can hear a section of his motivational speaking tape! You'll also get a Best Show sticker and something else awesome!

Now here's the best part!

This week TED LEO will be in the studio PLAYING SONGS FOR YOUR PLEDGES! He's been working on a bunch of fun stuff just for this show, so basically, the more songs you pledge, the more songs he plays. And the more you pledge, the more wild the selections get! Wouldn't you love to hear Ted duet with Laura Cantrell, who will be my co-host? OF COURSE YOU WOULD! So pledge!

Wouldn't you want to hear Ted Leo do a duet with me? YES YES YES! And you'll hear that, as long as you PLEDGE TO THE BEST SHOW THIS TUESDAY MARCH 13th, 8-11 PM EST!!! And the show will be WEBCAST! So you can see it LIVE on the internet at www.wfmu.org!

So let's make it happen, people! This is the moment! Are you going to stand up for something awesome like WFMU? Are you going to do the right thing?

I know the answer to that. So do me a solid - call 800-989-9368 or go to www.wfmu.org Tuesday night 8-11 PM EST and support freeform radio! Support The Best Show On WFMU! Support all those laughs you've gotten all year long!

Thank you.

Tom.

Me, I'm playing it cool. When you see a rock star in its natural habitat, avoid eye contact and make no sudden moves. Besides, this is the only pair of pants I have with me.

Awww, he likes Top Chef, too.

Someone please explain to me why Marcel was banned from the Cool Kids AND the Nerds tables at lunch. I'm still confused. Was it the hair? Because that's a pretty stupid reason to attack a poor guy, even if his hair was fucking awful.

I am officially a fond fool:  I'm listening to the archive of yesterday's show, and I was just absolutely thrilled to hear the "thank you" I received for my pledge (which I didn't fully register last night).  Deeply touched I was.

Am I pathetic or what?  Oh well, we onanistic shut-ins have to get our kicks somehow.  Thank you, Tom and Ted.

Ted Leo  covering Barry Dworkin gave me a reason to carry on.

I know what you're saying sarah.  I got super stoked when Terre T. and Evan "F" D. thanked me for my pledge last night.

Congratulations Tom, Ted, et al.  TL was amazing enough but to hear such an outpouring of support the last couple of weeks (from my perspective anyway) made it that much more special.

"Enya song"? For shame, Teddy, for shame!

I dunno...  I'm only half joking when I say that "Styx v. Enya" is a toss-up.
And honestly, I'd rather share a cab with Enya than with Dennis DeYoung.  She at least seems like she might actually NOT talk to you.
Now write me a receipt so I can tip on outta here...

That song is called Orinocco Flow anyway. I worked in a record store when it came out, honest. I did have to double check on Wikipedia though and in doing so discovered that Enya is the 96th richest person in Ireland, she loves cats and her favourite book is Lord of the Rings.

In other news, is there now anyone more awesome or held in higher esteem by the FOT than Ted fucking Leo?
