I think "Do the Right Thing" is unimpeachable, and there's a few other flicks of his that I enjoyed a lot. But he's got a lot of crap in his filmography. Granted, the same can be said of many directors.

!!!

ok I remember as a kid, my mom told me this same story, except it was her friend ending up in an elevator with Lionel Ritchie in Century City. This was in the 80s.  Lionel's "command" was "Down, Lady".  Afterward, Lionel "sent the woman a hand written apology, and an autographed picture of himself."

OK, whatever. This happened long ago. But no, she keeps retelling me this story!  As recently as five months ago. "Remember when my friend was in the elevator with Lionel Ritchie?"

Sounds like mom's getting a call this weekend.

I think I remember my mother telling me a version of this story too actually, only instead of Lionel Ritchie it was Werner Herzog, and instead of saying "Down, Lady" he turned to my mother and said "Do fish have dreams?"  Then the next day he sent her a handwritten note and a crate of dancing chickens.
I'm warning you with peace and love.
