Reading that depressed me.
I lived in Humbolt from 1989- 2001. El Hefe, from NOFX opened a club there called Hefe's in the mid 90's. He had a bunch of family that lived in the area. I worked at a upscale bar & grill and every year we would do a fancy Easter brunch. El Hefe (wearing a tie) would bring in his mother and a bunch of his family for most of the years that I can remember. He was super nice and friendly and a pretty regular dude. I thought it was awesome that he took them all out every Easter.
When Hefe's closed down, NOFX played the last show (with Snuff and someone else I can't remember). I was in a band at the time and we all decided to go to the show even though I wasn't really a fan. Snuff was great and NOFX...I couldn't believe how tight they were for how fast as they played. I have to hand it to them; It was a really good show. I really enjoyed it way more that I thought I would have.
Those two things kind of made me respect them in a kind of, "good for them" way. So, reading that Fat Mike story made me sad. Disappointing really.
