Why is the internet shocked about the performance of a guy whose primary band NOFX released an album featuring a boy reverse-cowgirling a sheep on the album cover? (or was it the other way around?)

The dude on the cover is giving the sheep a reach around. I still have this CD. Between my wife and I, we have two NoFX CDs, and I think that's two too many.

The worst thing about that article is how horribly written it is -
"The moment Mike showed up as Cokie the Clown it was immediately evident that this was not going to be a comedic type of set. His face was adorned in makeup akin to a traditional European whiteface clown but his eyes were empty and glazed over – the emptiness was vacuous."

As opposed to that rich, full-bodied emptiness.

'don't go to NoFX shows, we don't want you there'.

Noted.

Reading that depressed me.

I lived in Humbolt from 1989- 2001. El Hefe, from NOFX opened a club there called Hefe's in the mid 90's. He had a bunch of family that lived in the area. I worked at a upscale bar & grill and every year we would do a fancy Easter brunch. El Hefe (wearing a tie) would bring in his mother and a bunch of his family for most of the years that I can remember. He was super nice and friendly and a pretty regular dude. I thought it was awesome that he took them all out every Easter.

When Hefe's closed down, NOFX played the last show (with Snuff and someone else I can't remember). I was in a band at the time and we all decided to go to the show even though I wasn't really a fan. Snuff was great and NOFX...I couldn't believe how tight they were for how fast as they played. I have to hand it to them; It was a really good show. I really enjoyed it way more that I thought I would have.

Those two things kind of made me respect them in a kind of, "good for them" way. So, reading that Fat Mike story made me sad. Disappointing really.

i don't know about feeling too bad about mike from this show.  if they're knocking the video off of youtube for copyright reasons, it's probably because they'll be putting out a dvd of the show at some point.  i never really followed nofx (the only song of theirs i knew was their cover of don mcclean's "vincent" which i actually liked quite a bit at the time), but i know that he got a lot of shit from the "punx" when he was doing the whole "bands against bush" thing and getting involved in political fundraising.  if anything, i'd suspect that this clown bit is meant more as a shocking i'm back thing than a real pouring of emotions.

by the way, anyone from the bay area remember extreme elvis?

I've seen them a few times and they do what they do really well live. They were always really funny as well. I like funny bands.

My brother lives in San Francisco and is in the record business and knows Fat Mike. He's heard some of these stories before and believes that they are mostly true.
Too soon?

I wonder what AP Mike's take on this would be. I watched some of the video, and ew bouy those songs are terrible.

I think he's a phony. I doubt any of the stories he told were true. And I pulled the pee into the punch bit when I was in the first grade.

I'm hoping the "I did nothing while some girl was being dragged away to be raped" is a lie.

If it is in any way true, then doing nothing in that scenario is unforgivable.

Nardwuar kept it classy though. I would not have been as patient, though I guess he had an idea of what he was getting into.

He's just another in a long line of people who have been jerks to da Nard. See the first Sonic Youth interview. And then the second where Thurston (weakly) defends his actions.
