The Taco Bell Challenge
« on: March 26, 2010, 04:23:10 PM »
Tom mentioned the TEN DOLLAR TACO BELL CHALLENGE which sounds intriguing. Basically buy anything at Taco Bell and spend a full $10 and try to eat it ALL!! This is the more common general Taco Bell Challenge:

Taco Bell Challenge
The act of purchasing the "Grande Meal" consisting of 10 tacos, to be made up of 5 hard shell and 5 soft shell tacos, and consuming every last shred of each taco within a half hour. The rules are simple:
1) Eat EVERYTHING. This includes every shred of lettuce.
2) Choice of Border Sauce and drinks is left to the Challenger.

Guy in my office ate $16 from Taco Bell just last weekend:

  • Grilled Stuft Chicken Burrito Combo, non-diet pepsi (comes with the mini-nachos)
  • Chicken Quesadilla
  • Cheesy 5-Layer Beef Burrito ($.89!)
  • 7-Layer Burrito
  • The new Pacific Shrimp Taco

He said that was a big meal.

why do you think they spell Stuft like that?  i wonder if there was a focus group that said the spelling of "stuft" was more appealing than "stuffed."

If you don't get the food for free, what's the point?

Aside from that, what's the point?

I want to know the decision making process that would go into ordering a Shrimp Taco from Taco Bell.

What's the point of eating Taco Bell or the point of the challenge? RE: The challenge... I have no idea. That's why I was asking.

The point of eating Taco Bell, as gross as it might seem to some, is that you LIKE Taco Bell. Crazy, I know.

Same here-- my gut reaction the first time I saw that they were selling those was basically "nooooooooooooooo!!"

Take out the meat and it gets harder. My brother and I used to make the late night Taco Bell run when we were teenagers, and I used to have:

- Two Tostadas
- 7 Layer burrito
- Nachos
- Bean burrito
- Sodie

And that was nowhere near $10. I will not be surprised when I get a weird stomach cancer.

Oh, it's all about the gut.

I had one or two.  I rate it a 4/10 among shrimp tacos, about the same as their regular taco compares on the scale of regular tacos.

The shrimp are (I think) precooked and therefore overcooked, so I wouldn't worry about spoilage.

The pacific shrimp tacos just taste like any other of their tacos because all you can taste is the chili lime sauce.

10 Taco Bell tacos actually aren't that hard to 'stuft' down your throat.

I haven't been to a TB in forever, is the shrimp taco a real thing??? That is making me queasy just thinking about it! I liked it when they stopped trying to make food that actually resembles anything natural - like that Volcano taco! It was red and black... order that with a pepsi blue and you're set!

Back in high school (middle/late 90's), two of my friends were hanging out at Taco Bell when they were approached by a woman from TB HQ, who wanted them to try some new foods.  As 16-17 year old males, they fit the Taco Bell demo like a glove.

My one friend was asked to try a thing resembling a Seven Layer Burrito - I believe it was merely stuft with more crap the the usual 7LB.  He said it was alright, but not memorable.

But my second friend was asked to try a dish dubbed the "Mountain Dew Burrito."  It was also much like a 7LB, but the soft tortilla was made to taste citrus-like; in other words, it was supposed to be like you were eating Mountain Dew.  Imagine how delicious that would be - a 7LB nestled in the flavor of Mountain Dew.  According to him, it was "the best thing [he] ever ate".  However, the Mountain Dew Burrito only lives in the memories of my friends, as it was never heard from again.

But if TB is delving into seafood, you'd think they would have no problem serving something that tastes like Mountain Dew.

2 of my colleagues from India recently were eager to go to Taco Bell specifically because of the shrimp taco. We ended up eating at a table that had 'KKK' carved into it. Aside from that, they seemed to think the shrimp taco was OK.

Maybe we can make a Mt Dew burrito on our own. This sounds like a project.
