I think Lenny Bruce is funny, but the recently released 6 CD box set is not a good place to start.

Tom's right about how terrible Tom Waits is, Clerks, This American Life, etc, etc, etc.
That's all terrible.
But now more than once I've heard him bashing Giorgio Moroder.

LAY OFF GIORGIO ALRIGHT?

(also I don't remember what Tom said about Pan's Labyrinth, but that movie really wasn't that great.)

Appropriate for the discussion with Patton last week: "I know I will die having not seen Pan's Labyrinth." -- Tom, 2/27/07

From the recap:

"Of all the nominated films, Tom says he will never see Pan’s Labyrinth because it looks like the creepiest, most unpleasant movie ever. PFT's seen it, and it is! He says it's worth a rental. Tom knows he will die having not seen it. The clips of the guy with the eyes on the hands were enough to scare Tom off."
"Let's have a device-a-thon, just you and me." -- Montgomery Davies

I love Georgio Moroder!

I just hate his limp soundtrack for SCARFACE.

Don't tell me that YOU like the SCARFACE soundtrack?! Do you?

Tom.

He ruined Fritz Lang's "Metropolis," too.
Or, at least, they made a crummy version of it with his crummy soundtrack.
I guess he didn't "ruin" it...
I'll stop arguing with myself now, o.k.?
Now write me a receipt so I can tip on outta here...

Hey Tom, you've been playing more rap in recent years.. are you familiar w/ the mid-90s Mobb Deep single "G.O.D. Pt. III"?

They rap over a loop of your favorite song.

I logged in just to say Dave Sim is eccentric and has controversial opinions
but the Cerebus book and what he did with it is an amazing feat

I hate that people dismiss his work just because he's argued some odd view points
the man paved the way for the independent publishing and artist owned characters in comics.

The nature of artists is they look at the world somewhat askew
that's what makes them interesting

Oh yeah Death Proof was pretty hard to take

not the best movie in the world
but there is something there

well at least several cool scenes
I've been rewatching it lately, this scene is fantastic

if you toss out things like traditional pacing, plot, internal logic

this film is Tarantino's ode to the female form more than to any old grindhouse movie
this dude is just really into women and he wants to share that with you

i think that's the suggested retail price. it is a hard cover 750 page book, but you could get it online from target or costco for $18 or B&N for $21 - (pre shipping) not sure what their in-store price is. i'm pretty sure you can download the entire book online for free, & there's always your local library -- though you may have to wait a few months for your turn, it would be entirely free.

or i could lend you mine when im done - aka: at dawn.

dorkily yours,
emily
