I've recently decided to move out of the loft I've been living and working in for the past 14 years or so. I'm leaving behind a roommate/friend, and I would like to set him up with an excellent replacement.
Here's the deal:
It is a classic live-work situation in an old (old) warehouse/loft-type building on India St. in Greenpoint. Steps from the G train, a brisk walk to the 7.
This is not a Loft Beautiful space, it is raw/rustic/industrial. It is not a legally occupied building, but it has been a live/work for about 20 years and the landlord is aware that there are a limited number of live-ins. We have a lease; it is a pretty stable arrangement by NYC standards.
It has its quirks and charms.
There is a kitchen, bathroom, which you would share.
A modest "woodshop" room (table saw, chop saw) is available for common use.
20'x20' common room that is generally kept empty.
Plus it can be a bit of a blank canvas if you are construction oriented, creative and adventurous.
The main available room (bedroom) is approx. 300 sq ft. w/ 14 ft ceilings.
There is also a darkroom option and the additional option of up to 100 sq. ft. of storage space (4ft. ceilings).
The base rent for the bedroom is 950$. Goes up from there depending on how many of the options you would want.
Earliest availability would be July 1. Latest would be September 1.
The most important qualities you'd bring to the table would be quiet, flexible, mature-ish, mildly adventuresome. You'd have to be willing to "help out" with the basic maintenance of the floor. For example, there is a large common room that is heated with coal. I had to bring up buckets of coal and clean out ashes from time to time. No dogs, no smoking. Cats are most likely fine. There are other cats in the building.
It would make an excellent lair for a hermit in training or someone who would like to experience a lifestyle from a simpler time: 1997.
