I still haven't finished 'I Drink for a Reason'.  Should I?

New album is good, though, opening song aside.  That was just weird.

Stupornaut's Pitchfork review is a very accurate assessment of this album.  Compared to Cross's horrifyingly bad book, I Drink For A Reason, this is somewhat passable stuff, but there is nothing particularly memorable or interesting about it.  A few chuckles here and there.

I gotta say that I was shocked that I Drink For A Reason was so bad. I had such high hopes for it. Not funny at all.

The new album is decent though. Nothing uber special though.

I didn't care all that much for "Shut Up, You (Ripping) Baby." As such, I really haven't had the desire to explore his catalog any further.

I recall reading/hearing that he had this contract to write something, and he sweated it and sweated it, thinking somehow that he had to turn in short stories or fiction or some shit. Very near the deadline he talked to his editor and said "I"m so fucked!" and the editor said, "so don't write fiction, write what you want" or something or other.

So I guess this book was banged out at the last minute - does that jive with what you guys have read?
Remember how he couldn't stop his leg?

I have the first two albums on vinyl, but I ended up giving away the cd and dvd copy's of the new record to friends. It enjoyable enough, but probably plays better to folks who don't follow Death Ray or Tinkle. I agree that the deaf signer and live-blogger bits featuring Mort Burke are terrific. Here's a link to his stand-up.

The bit with the signer and the blogger in his live set really reminded me of Scharpling & Wurster.

on the invite them up CD(s), cross and jon benjamin do a bit that i enjoy which is reminiscent of a scharpling & wurster layout.

I just watched the DVD. I laughed more when I saw it live, perhaps because I was all, "David Cross! :-O Todd Glass! :-)"
