I like it.  Of course, I am slightly in love with Louis C.K., so I'm prejudiced.  

For me, the worst things about the HBO show were Pamela Adlon and, especially, the awful child who played his daughter.  Because they're out of the picture, this new show is by definition better.

Pamela Adlon is A, going to be in the show and B, she's a producer. Booyah.

I'm perfectly okay with Pamela Adlon appearing on an episode or two (I noticed her name in the credits).  I actually kind of like her.  But I quickly tired of her portrayal of the wife (and, truth be told, I tired of the husband-and-wife, "are we gonna fuck" schtick pretty fast, too).

She does the same shtick in Californication and it got old pretty fast there. But that whole show is so terrible, I'm not sure if it had more to do with the writing.

Seriously: how good was Robert Kelly as his brother?

Great first couple of episodes.  I love how the whole thing feels a little like a lo-fi 'Seinfeld' or a darker 'Curb'. 

Stuff I liked:

Bobby Kelly as the brother. 

The fight with the indifferent bus driver.  "What kind of person are you?"

His date escaping by helicopter.  A bit of a throwback to his internet video. 

Pretty much all the stand up bits. 

Bottom line, Louie's a genius and I hope the show has a nice, long run.

I've heard Louis CK interviews where he's pretty dismissive of where his stand up was ten years ago, when he tended to be more absurdist onstage. But I liked his absurdist stuff ... I don't know why he's so down on that era of his work.

Well, do you remember stuff you said from 10 years ago? When I think about things I was into, it's not even like it's me. It's not that I hate those things now, I was just in a completely different place.

Absolutely.  I was a big mess of dreck 10 years ago. 

Plus, comedy-wise, pretty much every stand up hates his early work too.

So far, Louie has a very 1970s movie feel to it. The opening credits sort remind me of Taxi Driver. Louis is sort of a middle aged angsty Travis Bickle minus all that killing and revenge. I love the shows pace and tone. I like how long he let's certain scenes run. The opening poker scene in episode two ran for seven plus minutes, which is pretty cool in these days of quick cuts and Family Guy flashbacks. I can't wait to watch more.

Maybe I'll have to actually get cable.

Wow, the pilot was better than the first real episode. The getaway scene was great.

I thought in a way the feel of it was reminiscent of his early short film Ice Cream Man and his first film Tommorow Night, and that helicopter scene was reminded me of something out of Woody Allens early films.


What was the deal with Nick Dipaolo? He looked like he got a make over.

Last night's episode was simply sick - in a great way. Ricky Gervais playing Louie's doctor was brilliant.
