In Party Down she was over-enthusiastic and guileless. Not sarcastic at all.

We could mill through 100 adjectives but c'mon, you get what I don't like.

The common thread that I see running through her performances is that she's pretty butch. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that this is not what bugs you.

And honestly, no, I don't really get what you don't like. But THAT'S OK - you don't have to like her. Just realize that you're not going to convince others that she actually is horrible.

Am I the only one who thought there was a big dropoff from season one to season two?

I thought the first episode of the second season was pretty bad, but that it recovered nicely after that.

I've now watched 8 episodes of this (4 from each season) and I still don't get what people are enthused about.  To me it's an ok show but really just squirm comedy-by-numbers, with too many awkward situations telegraphed in advance. Another lesser version of The Office, complete with Tim & Dawn and David Brent retreads (although they seem to be deviating from that path in season 2). I thought the two episodes of Louie that have aired pretty much obliterated it in terms of dark honesty and originality, and in my opinion nothing in it can compare to the surreal alternate universe of 30 Rock.

That said, I do think it has its moments and will keep watching.  Martin Starr's sci-fi snobbery is probably my favorite aspect.  I didn't have a problem with Jane Lynch but her character didn't make much of an impression on me.

You do though, because I told you. List any word you would use to describe her be it butch, sarcastic, guileless whatever. That is what I don't like, everything about her. She would rank at the top 10 of my list of Unfunny Funny People. I never expected to convert anyone.

You're not doing yourself a favor by not watching it in order - or at least watch the whole S1 before embarking on S2. I think S2 is the better season; not as squirmcentric as S1, the characters are better developed, it's more FUN.

I've had about the same reaction to this show as to Parks and Rec: lukewarm at first, made it through the first season (Parks and Rec I nearly gave up), and then BAM! - lurrrvved the second season.

Ken Marino and Megan Mullaly can be seen on the upcoming Children's Hospital.

The first episode also features Adam Scott and can be seen here.

Because of Party Down, I'm now going through Veronica Mars on Netflix. It's a show that I've avoided forever but I've really grown to like it. Plus, it's great seeing various Party Down-ers show up. Ken Marino and Ruan Hansen in particular are great. Every time Hansen's character says something dumb, my wife and I both say "Kyle..." like he's a lovable mutt that just tore up the neighbor's garbage.

Still, it's weird to watch a high school show. Especially since I've agreed to start watching Friday Night Lights soon.

I get the reasons for not liking Jane Lynch, but it doesn't really bother me. It might be because I've never seen Glee...
