Dear Scrivener
« on: September 25, 2010, 02:23:08 PM »
Mr. Scrivener-
I had two questions regarding information that I can't seem to locate via buffcoat or the forum. As a last resort, I call upon your archivist skills for help.
1) There was one call where Philly Boy Roy mentions not drinking water. I've been through them all and can't find it.
2) What was the first PFT call?

If you could help me with these philosophical quandaries it would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,
o_g

Omar

1)  4/17/07.  PBR discussed this during his SXSW recap:

"He arrived in Austin on late Wednesday night to take in the festivities and prepare for the showcase on Saturday afternoon. However, by that time, he was completely dehydrated and malnourished because he couldn’t eat none of that terrible, disgusting Texas food. PBR asks Tom if he ever had something called a ... "taco". Tom is familiar with this exotic example of the local cuisine, so PBR wonders if he threw up when he ate one. Tom was able to keep it down, but PBR says he puked as soon as he smelled the darn thing. He thought he might like it because it looked kinda like a mini-hoagie in a hard shell. He experienced severe dehydration because he couldn't find any Yeunglings or Frank's sodas in Austin. Tom thinks that water might have been an effective hydration technique, but PBR says that none of the Ziegler clan drink water, a policy that dates back to the 1800s. The whole family tree avoids water in favor of sodas, Yeunglings, soup, coffee, and cupping their hands to secure rain. PBR says he's never consumed water of his own violation. When he was a kid, he drank out of the water fountain because he didn't know no better back then."

2) 1/2/07.

while we're on the subject on best show arcana...

can you tell me where Maurice Kern appears on the show?

also, is the early versions of Bryce the same as the stoned Bryce of later years? and where is the first time stoned Bryce appears?

thank you, in advance oracle!

I found what I think is the first time Spike called. March 2, 2004. but he doesn't identify himself as such. he goes on about Debbie the DOminatrix, and his dungeon. and Tom does a prescient impression of him. Already the chemistry is there. I was quite excited. I want to see some infographics regarding Spike and fonpr.

I need a girlfriend.
I can hear you judging me.

1/23/01 and 12/21/04.  I pulled those from here:

I believe that by late 2005 (maybe sooner?), Bryce was the crippler-loving Dead enthusiast.  I haven't listened to any of the early Bryce calls recently, but I think it's the same character who just gradually evolved into the current Bryce.

3/2/04 is indeed Spike's debut!

I think Omar's title needs an update. The Scrivener AND Historian.
Too soon?

I would like this thread better if the title was Yo'mar. Possibly Y'Omar.

Also, I believe April '05 is indeed the debut of Bryce, and he is the same Bryce from then until now, but his voice has gradually changed over the years as he stopped partaking simply recreationally and moved on to full-on crippler hits and ski trips. Also, like everyone in Newbridge who survived Colonial Days '07, he was deeply scarred and forever changed.
This may be the year I will disappear.

For me, the title of this thread is being sung to the tune of "Dear Prudence".

Isn't there a defunct Best Show wiki somewhere? What happened there?

At some point in, I think, early '07 the FOTpedia became dysfunctional in terms of being able to update it, but it was still viewable.  As far as I know, it has been inaccessible in any way for several years. Perhaps it was digitally "James'd." I have managed to unearth some of its contents when researching items by digging through the bowels of archive.org.

There is definitely some good content on there, so if the FOTpedia is ever relaunched, it would be worth salvaging the entries (as well as probably 100+ placeholder entries, some of which are delightfully obscure).

The above text contains the phrase "digitally James'd" and the word "bowels."  DON'T JUDGE ME!

If anyone wants to message me with proposals for a new fotpedia I'll make it happen.
Unfortunately things like this take work and time.
There needs to be one or two people to oversee the whole project and people willing to do the shit work/ data entry.
There also needs to be some hard and fast rules about what makes it in, how the entries are treated and who can edit or update.

AWESOME. YO'MAR. I would like to buy you a drink. You have made my life more complete. In the archives, I'm at about 2004. And Spike appears again for Petey's first trial. That was disturbing. I am very much looking forward to discovering the evolution of the Bryce character. Do you think his name was inspired by the WFMU DJ that used to follow Tom?
